Latti's injury is severe. Nobody knows how long rehab will take. He will be depending on his previous knee as his main support while this recent one heals. I wish all things good for this guy. He is tough, but his psychological fears will always be in the back of his mind. If he is getting paid maybe it would ease his mind. I know he wanted pro money for his family. Life is so unfair. Hang tough, Marcus.

I dunno if I would be. A 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick doesn't seem like a huge gamble on a guy previously rated as the clearcut #1 RB on everyone's board. Particularly given that some teams may have several 5th or 6th round picks available.

Remember, Willis McGahee got drafted after a similar injury.

Not only that, but McGahee had his injury in January and not 3 months later he was drafted in the 1st round. Everyone saying that Marcus wont get drafted or will go in the 6th or 7th round is down right crazy.

Runningbacks are now expendable and go mid to late first round at best. No one is going to throw big money at a RB that had two major knee surgeries, a RB career now is about 4-5 years after that the mileage starts to show especially when they have been the premier back since high school. Look at the Panthers who would you rather be your number one back D-Will or J-Stew? You are going to want J-Stew mainly because he shared the load while at Oregon, so he has lower miles but D-Will was the premier back for 4 years at Memphis, I don't care what league you play that is a lot of miles.

There is absolutely no reason for Marcus to have made this decision so soon since he has no idea what his recovery/rehab period will be.....which is why I don't believe this. It makes no sense declaring for the draft this year if you can't workout for the scouts before the draft. Nobody is going to draft him until he proves his knees are back to normal and he didn't lose anything with the injury.

Is Kornblut actually a credible source? He used to be good for finding out what schools a recruit were considering back "in the day" but now there are half a dozen (at least) folks/services who do a better job of that. I'm not all that confident his inside scoop is actually either inside or scoop.

(lol not saying Marcus is 'cheating' or USC is an overweight fry cook - I just thought it added some humor to the analogy. I am very pro-NFL for Marcus right now...it simply seems like the best choice for him personally, by far). |

It's asinine to speculate, however it's agreed that he WILL NOT play until 2014 due to recovery...if he's higher than a 4th round pick I will be absolutely SHOCKED.
Seems like a very poor decision to announce this early, if it is true.

Marcus is not going pro. Marcus is coming back to play a senior season, whether it be this coming year or next.

Hopefully he comes back for another season. I think it would also be in his best interest. Don't know about the 2014 season, but if there was a way for him to play next year with the schedule we have it would be a heisman year

If Marcus can get drafted I say he needs to go. He has already one so much for this school. He deserves a break.

I don't blame him, given all the cheap shots and questionable hits he has taken. Another hit like he got against UT might spell the end of his career. If he stays, there will only more chances of getting hit like that again.

It is absolutely not in his best interest to ever play a down of college football again. If you are going to go out and risk never walking right again in your life you better be getting paid for it.

While what you all are saying is true, and what I would recommend. He is not going pro. He wants to come back an play again. Yeh, it doesn't make sense, but Lattimore has never been a guy to do the obvious for himself either.

Marcus needs to take next year and rehab the knee while getting his degree. After next season when the knee should be 100% (or as close to that as it will get) he should go pro. As much as I would love to see him one more year in Garnet he is one more knee injury away from never playing in the NFL. He is the poster child of everything good in college sports and his personal future trumphs fan gratification every time. With a good showing on Pro Day and in the combine he can still go in the first to early second round. Let him take care of himself and his family while he still has a chance.
