Money wise it is. But remember, baseball contracts are insane compared to 20 years ago. Think about what type of contract we would have had to pay Greg Maddux in 1993.

I really like the fact we got Upton with what I feel is a very good contract for us. We will be getting him in what should be his prime and the contract will end before he likely declines. Now if only we could trade for his brother Justin. That would be one sick outfield.

I feel like I should be more excited about signing Upton. That's not to say that I hate this move, because I don't. I guess I'm just seeing a player that hasn't played up to his potential and I'm not convinced that he will. If he does though, he would be well worth every penny of that contract.

Of the FA options out there he was the best one we were gonna get. So I'm happy to have him. I'm hoping we can also sign Pagan or trade for Span although that looks doubtful. Maybe trade for Fowler but what will that cost us. Last options would be Victorino or Ross. All in all I think we are gonna make out well this off season.

Nats traded Alex Meyer for Denard Span. So that sucks.

Twins piss me off. Their asking price was too high when we asked the first time yet they settled for 1 pitching prospect from Washington? Screw them.

Traded Tommy Hanson to LAA for Jordan Walden. Saves another 4 million dollars and gets us a solid young bullpen arm. Great deal.

My opinion now. I have no idea where we are about to go. Angel Pagan makes a lot of sense right now with that salary freeing up. Obviously we need a leadoff batter.

Here is what I think. EOF has tons of value right now. We just traded for a setup man. We could throw together a deal with Arizona for Upton and send Ahmed, Delgado/Julio, or EOF for Upton. This is about to get really interesting.

I love this time of year. No baseball sucks but man I love watching the deals get made. Frank Wren is the man.

Very good trade. Hanson was highly regarded but that delivery is slow and prone to injury. Walden was an all-star 2 years ago with like 40ish saves. Young... Right-handed... Good Get!

Great job to get rid of Hanson before his value dropped completely like Jurrjen's. At least this should end the talks we were having with Durbin. No way he has a decent year two years in a row. Use that extra money and trade to get Justin Upton now!

I will miss Hanson though. Not because I think he was good anymore, but just because he was fun to watch dominate before his injuries.

Another small move by Wren today as well.

The Braves claimed right-hander David Carpenter off of waivers from the Red Sox, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports (on Twitter). The Red Sox had designated Carpenter for assignment ten days ago.

In 32 1/3 innings for the Astros and Blue Jays this past season, Carpenter posted a 8.07 ERA with 8.6 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9. The 27-year-old was tougher to hit in 2011, when he posted a 2.93 ERA in 27 2/3 innings for Houston.

Amazing how far he fell from 2010 to now.

In 2011, Atlanta had 4 Boras guys. Bourn, JJ, Hanson, Lowe. In about 3 hours, we will have none. Im fine with that.
