Default Heading to Las Vegas for the first time

Leaving next week and I'll be in Vegas 5 days. What do you recommend doing? I've traveled a good bit and have been to a lot of places but this will be my first time ever in Las Vegas. Couldn't be more excited. Obviously, i'm planning on spending a lot of time at the tables but I'd also like to get out and do other stuff too. So far, I've booked a Ferrari 458 Italia for a day and I plan on visiting the Pawn Stars pawn shop (just becuase I like the show and want to see it in person). What else is worth the time doing?

P.S. It's a guys trip with just me and a couple old buddies, and I promised my wife i wouldn't go to the Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam without her so that's out - for this trip at least.

If you had an entire day to kill, drive out to Death Valley National Park and go to Zabriskie Point and watch the sun set over those mountains - it is amazing. This is definitely the best time of the year to do it as well.

Also, isn't NFR going on now? That should be fun, maybe you can score some tickets and you & your wife can go. We had a blast last time when that was going on.

Here's my list:

Bellagio fountains, the best time is around sunset. I know you're on a guys trip but it's worth it. It's the best free attraction in Vegas and better than most of the stuff you pay for.

Stratosphere tower and ride the rides. Much cooler than the fake eiffel tower.

Fremont Street, the light show and the old casinos. You can still get shrimp cocktail at Golden Gate but it may be $1.99 instead of $0.99.

Watch a game at a sports book. I like the Mirage or Bellagio books. They both have some nice chairs

Eat or drink or both at the Peppermill. This is a classic style Vegas coffee shop/bar and great for that 4am breakfast. It's on the strip near the Riviera.

Go by the Riviera and take pictures with the crazy girls statues. Be sure to rub the booty for good luck.

Carnival Court, in the afternoon, it's an outside bar at Harrah's that usually has an 80's band at happy hour. Great place to see drunk people do stupid things.

Strip clubs. They're a mostly a rip-off but it's Vegas and it's a guys trip and they're open 24 hours and they're real big. Stay away from Glitter Gulch and don't take a credit card.

Collect every porn slapper card that you're offered.

That's my list for now. It's in no particular order and the only one worth skipping is the strip club. If you want more specific info, let me know.

Good info guys. Appreciate it!

Definitely not buying ecstasy or doing a strip club. Haha.

I've heard a lot of great things about Red Rock Canyon.

Red Rock Canyon is phenomenal, although apparently they have problems with vandalism because all around that area are the most foreclosures you will ever see. There are like 3 cities' worth of foreclosures in one place. Entire neighborhoods of unfinished construction as far as the eye can see

Also, you are close to Grand Canyon if you have a day trip

Bellagio fountains are fun

And Del Fresco's Steak House is a must

Most important thing, make sure you buy a round trip airline ticket. The Eiffel Tower at the Parisian is a good view of the city. Go downtown if you want to play the slots, much better payouts.

Red Rock Canyon is definitely recommended. I would also recommended Valley of Fire, maybe even more...although Red Rock is closer. You can take a bad ass trip through Valley of Fire that goes past Lake Mead and right to Hoover Dam. We spent a lot of our time in Vegas off the strip, honestly...so much to see.

You are going to be very disappointed with the Pawn Stars shop. If you still decide to actually get out and go inside instead of riding by, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

We enjoyed the casinos off the strip the most. The drinks came 10x faster, the tables weren't as crowded with idiots, and it had a nostalgic kind of feel to it. I think Freemont would provide most of this, although there are some off the actual "strip" too...Palace Station is one. There are a good bit of Asians in that place and they have some unique games that others don't. They also have bingo every other hour...which is pretty fun if you don't mind being around old people. Best bang for the buck and nerve racking.

Oh I love some bingo. I'll prob hit that up for sure!

But why do you say the Pawn Stars place would be disappointing?

Seriously. I BARELY survived four days.

Granted, most of the "scenery" I took in was inside casinos. Plus there was a lot of substance abuse.

But still, 5 days?

Haha. I got a steal on a ticket (i think). $300 on a round trip from Chs to Vegas. Didn't think i'd find one much cheaper.

I'm not a huge slots player unless the blackjack or craps tables are cold. Then i'll hit the slots just to kill some time.
