Ok... i normally dont care about basketball but this issue really bugs me. So lets say the Spurs won... does that take away the term "detrimental". If they won and it does take away that term then it shouldnt apply to if they lost either... if that makes sense

I think it's more because he sent them home before the game even started.
If they were on the bench I don't see them getting fined

got ya. i didnt know he sent them home. even if he did... its still a dumb reason. a coach should be allowed to do whatever he thinks will get his team a championship.

Then there's the fact, for all of you screaming about the "business" end of it, that this could be completely a business judgment by the Spurs if you care to look at it that way. What really puts fans butts in the seats? Winning, and in particular winning championships. Looking at least year and all the injuries that took place and the age of the starters on the Spurs that are in question here, if the coaching staff believed that periodically resting his players puts them in a better position to win that championship, then that right there is a smart basketball as well as smart business move. Meanwhile, TNT did not pay for the TV rights to watch those particular players. They'd paid for the broadcasting rights to 2 NBA teams. Sure they took into consideration who was on these teams when they picked which game to air, but it's not like they specifically calculated paying more for this particular game because of who was in it (it was just one game in a package deal). Anyway, it's not TNT screaming for money, it's David Stern. And I have a big problem with the NBA itself, a loose organization of competing business ventures, penalizing an independent business on fuzzy grounds about how this is, in David Stern's sole opinion, somehow "detrimental" to the game.

Or as others here have said, much more succinctly "bull shit."
