Better coaching:
Star Watch - Lakeem Jackson After averaging 3.2 points and 2.7 rebounds last season, and holding career averages of 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds, senior forward Lakeem Jackson is performing at an elite level thus far in 2012-13. He is among team leaders with 11.2 points per contest, and leads the team and ranks fourth in the SEC with 8.3 rebounds per game. He has scored in double-figures in four games this season and his 67.4 percent from the field ranks third in the SEC and 13th in the country. |

I agree totally. This staff has found a way to utilize Jackson's talents. He seems like a Frank Martin type of player. He plays with a lot of energy and hustle and he's pretty athletic to boot.

It's sad how bad coaching can ruin a recruit. Lakeem's been used terribly the last two seasons and you could always tell he looked demotivated. He could've been a big player for this team if Horn figured a way to use him better.
Glad to see him upbeat though and producing on both sides.

Coach Martin is letting Lakeem do what he does best and is not trying to make him have a role he is not comfortable with. I really like Lakeem's game, and though I don't know him personally, I like what I have seen of his personality.
I heard Coach Martin say that Coach Underwood was working with Lakeem on his FT, and that Lakeem made 10 in a row the other day after practice. Martin said Lakeem's FT difficulties were mental, not mechanical. I would really love to see him conquer whatever it is that is keeping him from making FT. I like Lakeem. |
