Basically, they were invited to the Independence Bowl, but felt they could get into the Liberty Bowl. So they turned down the Independence Bowl, but when Oklahoma got knocked out of the BCS in scuppered those plans. Now there is calls for the ousting of the Athletic Administration.

No you're correct. I can't remember what bowl it was but they offered us prior to the Navy game. We thought we would do better and said no. We lost and ended up in the Gator.

Tech is switching conferences and thus had no backing as they were basically acting as an independant. Should have taken the first offer they had. I think the ad said the independance folks were being disingenuous to them on the phone. At least thats what tim brando said today.
