MNF- RGIII Running Zone Read

I've been wondering why NFL teams cant run the zone read if it is as hard to read as everyone says. Well, RGIII ran it tonight and showed that with the right player and play calling, you can do it in the NFL.

You can run it but NFL issue is the QB taking too many hits. RG III is a stud and when used as a supplement to your run game it is awesome. DCs in the NFL are not as good as college DCs and their schemes don't adapt well to these type of wrinkles. The other key is RG III is first guy that can run and the fake it and hit a 15 yard in route in stride. Newton, Vick, Kaeppernick (unsure about him) can't throw the deep ins as well as him. RG III broke rookie QB rushing record already and will probably pass for close to 4000 yards. He and luck are blowing away Cam's year. They aren't just putting up stats but making clutch plays and making their team win games.

Plus you have to have a very special QB that can do it all......speed, ball handling skills, and can make all the throws....if you can't do all that, defenses won't honor the fakes. RGIII runs it great. Fearless. I just wonder how long he can keep it up getting hit so hard several times a game. The Giants defense was really tired at the end of the game. This is the best offense the Skins have had in 14 years since Fedex opened....although, it was called The Jack (for Jack Kent Cooke), who died shortly after opening the stadium, for a year or two when it first opened. It's probably their best offense since they last won the Super Bowl in early 1990's against the Bills, the game when Thurmon Thomas couldn't find his helmet at the beginning of the game.

things to remember:
Luck and RG3 still have 4 games to go and with some exp they could put up big numbers but who knows, Cam didnt have an offseason before his rookie year b/c of lockout, Cam and Luck have new coaching staff but at least Luck had offseason, Cam and Luck went to the worst teams in the NFL and the skins had 6 wins with Grossman last year, while RG3 has a much higher completion %...most of his throws are less than 7 yards down field while Cam and Luck are throwing down the field mostly from what I have seen

overall, i dont see how anyone could say they have blown Cams season out of the water.....all three are going to be great by looking at their rookie years if they continue to progress

Luck, with 4 games left and avg 300-400 yards passing a game, is going to be way ahead of Cam's passing yards. He could possibly break 5000 passing yards as a rookie. Griffen has already surpassed Cam's rushing yards and has 4 games to improve on that. Griffen has thrown plenty of deep passes for completions and TDs, they just don't throw the ball 50x a game. If Griffen was put in the offensive style that Cam was in last year, he'd have over 4000 yards passing and 1000 yards rushing, without a doubt. In his current system, he is going to probably rush for 900-1000 yards and throw for 3500 yards. That is insane considering they actually have a running game and not just QB driven, stat inflating, offense. Also all those throws he makes where he is able to drop the ball in around 15 yards, over the LBs and under the safeties, is a far harder throw than just throwing a ball 50 yards and letting WR go get it.

Cam is the second coming of Vince Young. I know you love Cam and are one of his defenders, but you need to look at long term possible success. Cam is a million dollar arm and body, with a 2 cent head. He doesn't get how to play QB. He knows how to make flashy plays and whatnot, but doesn't get how to actually play the position. RG III, Luck and Wilson all get what playing QB is about. It is about the team, not their ego. All you need to know about Cam is that in the national championship game, he almost fumbled the win away because he wanted to score the winning TD, for his own glory, rather than center and kneel on the ball and let his kicker hit the 20 yard chip shot.

Also the off season argument doesn't hold water. As many have said about Cam and last year's success. Defenses didn't have an off-season to prepare for him entering the league. Also Luck had to finish up his courses at Stanford, which didn't allow him to join the team until after mid-June. So it is all a wash.

Lastly, in the most important stat for a QB, both RG III and Luck have more wins than Cam and have placed their team in position to make the playoffs.

luck has led 5 4th quarter game winning drives, RG III has 2 himself, but many dramatic moments as well (think NYG the first game)
