Excellent Sporting News Article about the Complexity of Belcher's Death

This writer really did an excellent job of highlighting all the complexity for the Chief players and everyone involved in this tragedy.

It’s not about football. It’s not about whether the Chiefs are mourning the right person, as though it’s impossible for them to cry for Belcher and also for Perkins—and for their orphaned child.

As though it’s unacceptable for them to still feel love for the friend who, just last Friday, was in their midst.

“He was a good dude,” Shaun Smith said. “The incident that happened, that’s not the Jovan I knew.”

“Jovan is still a member of our family,” Crennel said. “You don’t throw him out the door.”

If those words raise your ire ... try to back yourself down long enough to consider the possibility that those words aren’t the sum of their thoughts on a murder-suicide.

Six days before she died, Perkins cradled Smith’s six-week-old daughter in her arms. It was at Arrowhead Stadium after the last game of Belcher’s life.

“I have three little girls,” Smith said, fighting his emotions. “I feel sorry his little girl won’t be able to know who her mom or her dad is.”

Several members of the Chiefs defense met with grief counselors on Monday. They weren’t ordered to; they chose to. Are they grieving in part for Belcher? Of course they are.

There is way to many emotions those guys are going through to try and harp on anything they say, they are devastated while still be in shock at the loss of what I'm sure was 2 friends given how close the families can become
