Texas has not shown lately that they are very good at evaluating QB talent ever since Colt left.
Remember the guy who replaced Colt in the national championship game when he got hurt, and how the commentators in that game kept referring to him as "the next heir apparent great QB at Texas" Yeah, me neither... |

Just think it's interesting that a Top 5 program (regardless of their success lately) would be taking a look at him. He didn't want to be here and compete, we don't need that type of attitude. But interesting development in the saga of McEvoy nonetheless.

The kid left bc he wanted to play, Shaw beat him out so he took a step down. Cant blame him. He came here thinking he could beat Shaw out and win the starting job he was upfront about that, when he didnt he went somewhere else he could start. Kid is a good football player, the spring game doesnt mean anything but being thats all we ever saw of him in Garnet and Black he can throw the ball around pretty damn well. Wish he would have been patient but it happens. Good luck to him whatever happens.

For some reason I feel like he would have seen the field this year. With our struggles at the position.
But man he sure blew the spring game outta the water. Even tho it was just the spring game he still had to place the ball in the right spot. Which he did better than anyone else that day. |

I'm not suggesting this will or will not happen, but I'm simply presenting a hypothetical situation. If McEvoy ends up playing for Texas and "lights it up" to become a national name, what, if anything, would that say about our coaching staff's ability to put the right players in or develop talent at the QB position?
On a related note, I remember reading how McEvoy would torch the defense (my understanding is the defense was the starting defense too), but that he had trouble "learning the offense". Someone else mentioned this around that time, so I'm just revisiting someone else's thought, but if the kid could "torch" the defense with a "vanilla" offense but couldn't grasp the actual offense, why wouldn't we run the vanilla one instead of being stubborn and sticking with Spurrier's system?

From the events surrounding his departure from the program it was more than likely he didn't want to do the punishment so he went elsewhere. Say what you want about Garcia he at least did the punishments that were handed to him. Could really care less what he does.
