I went to both OSU Outback Bowls and stayed in Westshore area and will again this time. The difference between downtown and Westshore is downtown is more convenient for Ybor City and Channelside, Westshore is more convenient for shopping, the stadium and the airport.

Someone mentioned the area near Hard Rock Casino......beware, thats far from the stadium and area around there is pretty crappy. Its out by itself with not much around.

The comment about downtown Tampa being more a 9-5 place is spot on. Not much happening down there after work hours.

I live here in Tampa. South Tampa actually. I've been a member on here for some time but never posted. I'm a musician in town playing many local areas. That Sunday 12/30, I'm playing at The Patio in S Tampa from 4-8pm. It's one of the nicest indoor/outdoor bars in the area and is at most a 10 minute cab ride from the larger hotels on Westshore, Dale Mabry, and Ybor. One of the owners is a dear personal friend of mine and I told him I wanted to do something for Gamecock Fans their and he's up for it. Great drink specials and food on the grill! I would love nothing more than to pack the place w Garnet! My name is Will Erickson and some of you may or may not have heard of me.

They had a great party boat the left from there back in the '80's. We used to go out almost every friday night on it. We called it the "Booze Cruise", and it went all around the bay for a couple of hours. I'm not sure if they do that anymore.

Depends what time you are coming. I have taken almost every route possible.

If you are driving mostly at night and will be coming through Orlando on I-4 after 7pm...then that route is faster (95 to 4). I hate Orlando traffic and all other times there just seems to be some kind of issue on that interstate. Never fails.

The other route using 301 isn't bad and is near the same time...but I usually don't take it all the way down to Ocala like some people...I go 301 to 24 through and under Gainesville. It's a really nice ride.

However, as I am sure many know...the speed traps on 301 are a major bitch. You will be going 60 then down to 45 then up to 55 then back down to 45 in a stretch of a few miles and it gets confusing after most people have been driving for awhile.

I just secured a one bed non smoking room at HoJo for $65 two days ago. I was surprised how it was both available and cheap. Not a great motel, not the worst either, but with it being New Years Eve and a night before a big bowl game it sounded like a good deal to me. It's also right off the interstate and within a mile of the stadium.
