USC was the first to offer and Peak attended the Ohio St. game

Coach brought him in when he was in the 8th grade to help shore up center play and when the game is on the line late, Peak plays point guard. He's probably going to be able to play wherever he wants to play. Work Peak and Thornwell hard Frank. These guys are the in state talent we need to lock up.

Lj is playing with the upward stars , the 17 u team is in the top 25 now . Next year they will be a beast. This is the first year and the won the ice breakers tourney and only practiced twice

Not good news:

Gaffney basketball coach Mark Huff tells us that rising junior swing man L.J. Peake has withdrawn from the school and is headed to Chicago's Whitney Young High School, a basketball power in the Windy City.
Huff says Peake's mother withdrew him from school Tuesday.
Peake played on the Indians' varsity beginning in eighth grade, helping the team win two state titles during his three seasons.

Whitney Young is an excellent magnet school in Chicago. Chess team won state, basketball wins championships, merit scholars,overall sports and academics - excellent. Near westside of Chicago. He is going to be successful if he takes advantage of the opportunity. He plays Chicago ball! I hope he plays at USC!

L.J. Peak is not trying to measure up to the last high-profile player to transfer from South Carolina to Chicago.

That kid was nearly 7-feet tall, a fella named Garnett who's on his way to the pro basketball Hall of Fame.

Peak, a 6-foot-4 junior, is unlikely to generate the buzz that accompanied Kevin Garnett's one season at Farragut in 1994-95. But he could be turn out to be the best guard to play for Young in Coach Tyrone Slaughter's talent-rich eight-year tenure.

"We rode Marcus Jordan to a state championship," Slaughter said. "He was a tremendous defender and could get to the basket at will. He was an above-average shooter, but not great.

"Chris Colvin was a big, strong guard who could get anywhere on the court. Ahmad Starks was a smaller guard who did some great things. A.J. Rompza was a great leader, a great passer, a great team player.

"L.J. is not the ball-handler Colvin was, but he's probably a better scorer. He's not the shooter Anthony Johnson was, but he shoots well. In some ways, he is a lot of some of them. In other ways, he is a lot of all of them."

Peak and the No. 2 Dolphins will make their 2012 debut Saturday against DeMatha (Md.) in the inaugural Chicago Elite Classic at the UIC Pavilion.

The brainchild of Slaughter and Simeon coach Robert Smith, the six-game showcase will pit Chicago-area teams against elite programs from throughout the nation.

"It is very exciting," said Peak, who is ranked No. 46 nationally in the Class of 2014 by Scout.com, No. 52 by ESPN and No. 64 by Rivals. "It is something I've never been a part of."

Peak said he didn't know much about Chicago's basketball reputation before moving here with his family during the summer, and he's not particularly fond of the recent cold weather.

He said he had heard of Jabari Parker but was unaware of Simeon's three consecutive state championships before being interviewed Wednesday.

He won a state championship at Gaffney High School in South Carolina last year, but said that team does not compare to the one he plays for now.

Two of his new teammates, 6-11 center Jahlil Okafor and 6-8 forward Paul White, are ranked higher in the class of 2014 than Peak, with Okafor No. 1 or 2 on most lists.

"I've never seen anything like (Okafor)," Peak said. "(The competition) is a little bit harder out here. They really focus on basketball. I've never played with guys this good before."

Hearing through the grapevine that LJ isn't too happy in Chicago and wants to return to Gaffney. I think he'll stay at least through this school year to see if he likes it any better.

He has all but said he's coming back to finish out his hs career in Gaffney.

Being away from "home" and not liking it bodes well for us.

also, rumor is him and Shaq want to go to school together after they win another bball championship.

Also, us getting thornwell could be huge in his recruitment as well.

haven't heard much mention of duke or unc. Last I heard was osu, ky, Marquette or one other that I can't remember
