Without Justice' catch against Vandy this season would have been completely different. Imagine starting the year with a loss to Vandy...

I would also throw out there that an honorable mention play of the year could be Byrd's stripping the football from Georgia's Bacari Rambo in the first series of the Carolina v. Georgia game on the long pass from Shaw. If Rambo makes that pick, who knows how the momentum of that game would have played out. Yes, we curb stomped Georgia thereafter, but that first series on offense set the tone for the night. |

Of the options listed, I'm going Ace vs UGA... the Mizzou return was awesome, but it was also a display of how not to cover a punt by Mizzou. I mean the tackling was just atrocious... and it didn't end in a TD either. Plus, Mizzou sucked this year and we were supposed to beat them. The PR vs UGA ended in a TD and basically put that game away. The environment was electric.

I look at play of the year as which play was critical part in winning the game.
Obviously, Clowney's sack is a no brainer. But the reasoning for my other choices are: 1) Dylan's TD throw to Bruce was on 3rd down and put the game out of reach. If USC kicks a field goal, Clemson still has a shot to win with a td. True, the runs that set up the td were huge but that throw which was essentially Thompson and Bruce freelancing, won the game. Combine that with it was on the road, in a rivalry game, and with a QB in only his 2nd start. I think it's definitely top 3. Same deal with the Shaw to Cunningham completion. Not sure how many remember but our team had ZERO life most of the game especially after Shaw went out. It was like watching a bunch of zombies out there but that throw and catch set off a charge that USC carried all the way to a victory. And wasn't it also on 3rd down? Not trying to take anything from Ace's punt returns but I believe USC was up comfortably on Mizzou and were already up 14-0 on Georgia. Both were great plays and deserves praise but I'm not sure they mean as much as the three I listed as far as determining outcome of the game.

I saw somewhere that Clowney's sack of Bray was the first sack Tennessee had allowed to a defensive lineman all season. Up to that point, only linebackers and safeties had been able to get to Bray. Breaking the UT offensive line's DL sackless streak was huge by itself. The fact that it stopped their drive late in the fourth to help preserve the game makes it by far the biggest play of the year. Just think of how deflating that would have been to lose three weeks in a row and after Lattimore's season had been lost earlier in the game. Legendary play in my opinion.

Any and all plays by Ace are noteworthy.
His punt returns are in a category all by themselves. ...and he will only be better next year! ![]()

Clowney's sack against UT was the first thing that came to mind. It doesn't get much more clutch than that. It's the only play I can't think of all year that you can point to and easily call it a game saving play. Plus he was the first D-lineman to sack Bray all year. I was sick that day, so my throat already hurt and I was trying to save my voice a little, but I went crazy on that one play and totally lost my voice. Probably the loudest I personally was at WB all year.

We have come to the point in the past two years that it's no longer play of the year, but a top ten plays of the year. Mine are in no particular order
JD sack on Bray in Tenn game DJ swag 3 personal foul Pic 6 against Arky Ace punt return UGA Ace punt return Mizzou Thompson to Ellington in the 4th vs CU DJ Swag pick 6 against Uab DJ swag hit on Ellington in the CU game Lattimore 20+yd TD run against UT Thompson 20 yrd 3rd down conversion against CU Shaw pass to Cunningham in the Vandy game. It's awesome that there are more plays this year that could be on the list to. ![]() |

Devonte Holloman's SUPERMAN pick off the tipped pass early in the Georgia game!
First, it was DIRTY. Second, it set the tone for our defense in our best win of the year! |

Well my 2 favorite memories of the year may not be the best plays.
Ace's punt return against Georgia. Place was completely nuts. Loudest place I've ever been. Not just stadium, but place. Dylan to Bruce in the 4th quarter after the draw play. I was there. Favorite memory because they talked all that trash about killing us, tried to make it such an intimidating environment, and then to see them leave after that play was so sweet.

I think the two most important were the Clowney sack vs. UT as well as the Cunningham catch vs. Vandy. Clowney's play was the game winner while up until Justice's catch we were in serious danger of losing the game.
My most memorable play is the last TD that Marcus Lattimore scored as a Gamecock. (I don't think he's coming back) |

Most significant play: Clowney's sack of Bray
Best highlight: Ace's return against Mizzou

might not be the biggest impact on a game but it was DJ's hit on Ellington for me
