I just bawled like a baby... This video is bittersweet. A house divided I left for the game saturday morning against my free will. My dad went into the hospital and was being treated for pancreas inflamation. He told me " Son, you work hard for your money just as I do, so go on and go have fun, I'll be outta here in a little while. In time to watch my Tigers whoop youre beloved Gamecocks." I said no, but dad insisted. I went and had a good time until right at half time. I turned to my friend and said I have a bad feeling we need to go home.
I drove home to Aiken like a bat out of hell. I called my mom and she said they were still there , that dad wasn't getting any better. I got my mom some pajamas, and a case for her contacts, and gave my dad this hideous orange t-shirt with a tiger paw on it. I told my dad, " I know this sucks giving you this shirt while being in here and getting your ass handed to you four years in a row but here ya go" he smiled and said thanks son, I'll wear this when I get out of here tomorrow. I told my parents that I was going to go home and get a couple hours sleep and come back to help them get stuff rounded up. I got home , showered, turned on the tv , and never had the opportunity to cover up before the phone rang. My mother told me to get to the hospital right now that my dad had just coded. I got dressed going down the road with my Dakota Sport pegged. Before I gor there my father had coded 2 more times.
I got up there to University Hospital and was waiting to go back to see my pops, and by the time they cleared me to go the whole family was there. We were rubbing him, talking to him and cheering him on to fight and come on back and fight this.
His vitals picked up, pulse, blood pressure, heart came out of afib, but was still in a coma. he was still unresponsive.
All of a sudden he started to asperate, grabbed the rails of the bed, sat straight up in the bed, looked my mom in the eyes for about three seconds, looked really fast arourn the room and layed back down flat lined. My dad was gone.
At 9:22 am 25 November 2012, my father, my pops, my old man, my rival football buddy, Tommy Ray Patterson, age 48 left this world.
I'm proud that our gamecocks won, but the other part wanted clemson to win so my dad could be the one talking smack to me. But I wouldn't change it for nothing.
My dad loved me, I loved him, but we loved football... at this point there was no Clemson or Carolina , there was just a father and son sharing a bond.
I miss you pops, keep that pigskin warm, I'll be there to go deep before you know it.

Reading your story brought tears to my eyes man. I know we all get so wound up in one or two things. But family is everthing. I am sorry about your loss, I wish in a way it could have went well for him, and less good for us. In a way I can say I do not. cuz I love my football team. But he knew of that I am sure before his passing. Im praying for you an your family. I know with a father passing away it is never easy, and it will not continue to be easy. Praying for you man.
