He won a National Championship as a DC at 'Bama in 1992...

He was Miss State's DC when we stole him from them...

All of the people that started on our defense this season were brought here under his watch...

Ellis may be a little conservative, but he built the defense we how enjoy. I like what Lorenzo is doing with it, but Ellis built it.

Certainly Wish Coach Johnson the best however i wish he would go to Auburn or FSU. I really hope he doesn't go to Tennessee or Arkansas, Arkansas is a longshot, at Arkansas it seems like Bielema will have his own people he is more familiar with although it would be good for him to have someone similar to Johnson who knew the SEC.

Agree and for all the BS about EJ's pass defense...well it finished 2nd in the nation in '11 and his overall defense was 3rd in the nation.
He's an excellent DC.

How do you think getting handled for a year and sending a program into a historical nose dive will affect his mental state coaching?

I don't see how you can go from the year he had, being fired, and then essentially going back to what you were doing before admitting either failure or being way over your head to being a high quality coach again so quickly.

Well we aren't going to play Auburn for a very long time anyways. So with his age, there is a chance that we may never play against his defense.

I dunno Mazahn's offense will probably possess the ball more than Sly Croom's three and out machine and he did ok with that. Also, EJ > Chizzick and Mike Archer or whatever bum kentucky retread they had running that defense.

I think it definitely hurt him mentally and was certainly a rough patch for him. That said, it wasn't the first time he has had a miserable year as the HC of a program.

I can see.
1. He has a pretty cool ring from that 92 NC i'd wager.
2. He is taking a job as the DC, a role he has performed at a high level for some time now.
3. He wants to coach, period. The man's got it in his blood and he loves the competition. If he was so mentally wrecked or felt he was past his prime, then he has a truckload of cash to retire on.

I'd assume that Auburn paycheck, his historical success with defenses, and his will to stay in the game have provided quite the leverage needed to balance out a terrible season at USM (concerning his mentality).
