You guys should have never run off Fulmer (and I don't mean you personally, unless you were at his house w/ a pitchfork).

Butch Jones is a decent hire. Your point here is a really good one; I think a lot of coaches (Strong, Gundy, Gruden) realized that
- UT Athletic Department isn't exactly swimming in cash presently (I know they had a lot to offer, but as far as facility upgrades/the arms race, etc., not so much. Presently, at least.)
- Tennessee isn't fertile recruiting territory and it's increasingly difficult to go into NC/SC/GA/etc.
- Whoever is hired is expected to win almost immediately.

Jones is better than a lot of the names that were beginning to be thrown around (Clay Travis mentioning Hue Jackson, for God's sake), but the move (after missing on the other guys) that would've been terrifying as a fan of a rival school was Petrino. My reaction to Jones: "Well, he is a person who coaches football. He could be good, I guess."

It sure as hell is better than Dooley, but almost anyone would be. I don't know if it is a homerun hire, it does have potential, but his biggest battle I think will be against yall's own fanbase.

He will have the chance to prove his worth. The part that has everyone laughing (well me at least) is the fact that this guy had to be at least #7 or 8 on your AD's "Most Wanted List".
And don't give me "we only offered the job to 2 people" BS. You don't offer the job to people that aren't interested (i.e. Patterson,Peterson, etc..)

Eric, I truly do not mind. I lived out west for a time and most people say USCw and USCe. It was not important until our program took off.

I think at this point in time they got the best coach that they could. Whether he can be successful or not is anybody's guess, but the odds are against him. I agree with the poster that said they should have kept Dooley and hired Ellis. But I'm glad they didn't.

I agree with you, but NO coach was going to go there without a long term deal after what happened with Dooley. TN had zero leverage, Gruden would have gotten a 10 yr deal.
