Melvin Ingram had a few TDs, some INTs, and a bunch of sacks and was still not invited. Clowney will have to do a lot.

If he could have 16-18 sacks, 4-5 forced fumbles an INT or two and 2-3 defensive scores he could win, thats the monster type of year he would have to have. Also the team would need to win the SEC at the least.

If Clowney is to win it next year, our SIDs will have to do a much better job promoting him than they've shown they can do in the past.

Yes they do, there was an entire segment on sportscenter friday I believe where they discussed how much money goes into creating all of the hype and campaign backing but that money and publicity is generated back to the school 10-fold if their candidate wins. I think it's more an inevitable thing because what school wouldn't back up their player by doing everything they can to promote them as the Heisman winner, but I think you do have a point with the social media thing. A lot of is just the students and fans creating the media that gets out and used to promote them so that makes sense, I'd like to see that sportscenter again because I think they were talking about how Manziel blew up and grew leading up to and after the bama game

To add onto that, before last season, South Carolina had school-sponsored sites for #21 and #1 as part of the effort to get both players on the Heisman watch lists.

This is why I wanted Manziel to win it this season. Had Teo won it become the first total defensive player to win the Heisman, I think that would have somehow hurt Clowney's chances next season, because it would be hard to imagine a defensive player winning it two years in a row. But with him coming a close second, I think that will actually increase Clowney's chances next season, because people will be considering defensive players a lot more now, wanting to give a defensive player that nod. A true defensive player is going to win it eventually. I hope Clowney is the first to do it.

Not to be a douche, but when it was announced that Johnny won, didn't the look on MT's face seem like he couldn't believe that he didn't win? I mean, maybe it's just me, but it sure seemed like he knew that he had it in the bag.

Well to be honest the guy isn't the best defensive player I have ever seen. With that said, without that sob story he has (which imo is really sad) he probably wouldn't have been there. Either way the Notre Dame staff probably set him up for that fall, filling his head with nonsense. Even my grandmother knew Manziel would win it.

I am glad Johnny won, but it was a thin year, IMO.

Crazy part. That is only 3 more sacks and 2 more forced fumbles this year. He could get that in the Bowl game.

I would love to see him get the direct snap on the goalline (kind of like Oklahoma uses that future Defensive End they call a QB).

Third time I've posted this the last 2 weeks and it's still true. A combo of Melvin's 2011 and JDC's 2012, Clowney will walk away with it easily. Especially with trends and biases being knocked down. Sophomores had never won it, now they have. Freshman has now won it with a pure defensive player finishing 2nd. Sets up another trend and bias to be knocked down, a pure defensive player finally winning it and that would be JDC.

I'd like to see us move Clowney around on some lesser opponents. Drop back into coverage to have a chance at some picks. Just some not a whole lot.

It could happen. The heisman is a statistics trophy. He would have to have huge numbers, even bigger than this year, to win it.
