I knew a guy that said the same thing so I watched it. Not sure how it could be anyone's favorite movie.

I like foreign films also. Check out martyrs, frontiers and haute tension. French films will definitely push the norm. Martyrs is tough to watch but really is one if the better films I've seen. Frontiers is just nuts. Haute tension is kinda like the old school slasher flick but its French and it will keep that feeling on your ski the whole time(tension).

A foreign movies that are somehow controversial.
1. Motorcycle Diaries = great film, is about how Che Guevara became a rebel, fighting for native americans and poors... 2. Sin Nombre = a love story of a gang member, the whole gang is after him, the love of his life is killed by the leader of the gang, then he tries to save a new love who's coming illegally to America from Honduras, astonishing story, one of the best movies I have ever seen. 3. Sabrina Love = An Argentine kid that wants to meet his favorite porn-star, the love of his life. 4. Y Tu Mama Tambien = one rich Mexican kid and another of the middle class, go on a trip to the beach trying to hook up with a woman from Spain... 5. Mancora = A Peruvian dude who's dad kill himself, he goes to the beach to surf and relax, his step-sister comes from Spain to visit him, lots of crazy things happen on that trip. 6. L Alberque Spagnole = 5 Europeans from different countries live each with other, studying in Barcelona. 7. Vicky, Christina and Barcelona = two American tourist in Spain, fell in love with an Spanish Artist... Scarlet Johansson ![]() 8. Maria full of grace = the story of how women bring cocaine from Colombia to New York... great movie. 9. Paraiso Travel = How Colombians come illegally to the States, this movie is so... f... up, they end up in Georgia... That's just a few, a lot of them somehow controversial and really good. If I remember another great one, Ill let you guys know,. This Chrismast, I gone spend a lot of time watching foreign movies. ![]()

I'd have to agree that Sin Nombre was a very good film...but controversial? idk.
I watched Red State recently. It basically is about a hypothetical situation surrounding a Westboro Baptist like Church.

Charlie sheen called the authorities about a film called "Guinea pig: flower of flesh and blood" , because he thought the film was a real snuff film. Haven't seen it.

Did you know that even El Salvador has a problem with immigration? Yep, a lot of poors from Nicaragua are massively going into El Salvador because El Salvador has more money... they also go to Costa Rica. France has a huge problem with Arab immigrants, Germany with eastern Europeans, Spain with South Americans, Arabs and Africans, Argentina with Bolivians and Peruvians.

John Water's Pink Flamingos makes any of the above mentioned seem like a Disney Movie

The guy that did "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and "The Short Bus" pushes the limits of sexuality into the 'Whoa!' Zone.
Kevin Smith broke all kinds of barriers (profanity and good taste) with"Clerks". God, that movie is So freakin' hilarious!

Many movies that we might think are tame compared to today's shock directors, were once considered very controversial:
Last Tango in Paris Rosemary's Baby The Omen Exorcist etc. Like I said, it all depends on time and culture. But, some of these controversial movies are nothing more than trash...zero redeeming qualities |

Not controversial but bad enough to walk out on.
