I'd like to see an early signing period for college football so some of these kids could just sign and be done with the circus that recruiting has become.

They don't make their decisions based on Cockytalk, but they'll come and read what fans are saying about them. They don't pay attention to screen names, from the outside in it is a collective consciousness. Cockytalk is the perceived perception of a chunk of our fan base and this kind of stuff can really turn people off.

Yeah I was confused by this as well. They definitely aren't as athletic as they come.

It's pointless, They would just not commit early at all. I say LET them shop around. It's better than being stuck in a place when they want to be somewhere else. Everyone just needs to stop whining. This is why you keep recruiting kids eventhough they aren't "takes" at the time. We need to have a plan B, plan C. I know kids don't like being a plan B or plan C but at times there be situations where that is the best option for that recruit when When plan A fails. We just need to do a better job of explaining this without overly insulting the recruits.

I agree, dominating Michigan will give our program a little boost in respect. I don't think winning a close game will do anything for us. Losing would hurt us.

And commit to whom? It seems to me if he had a lot of opportunities to commit elsewhere and was waivering at that time, than he would have done it by now.

Perhaps Antonio Allen, Jeffrey and Holloman are better examples of what I'm envisioning. There are lots of athletic kids who can tackle who play safety for their high school and might project to become grown ass men, but maybe lack the obvious size to play MLB in the SEC. Seems like we could take a chance on kids like that since we run a defense with lots of tweener/safety type guys out there. Alternatively, we need to recruit better/stop getting worked. People are just upset we lost a big recruit, including me, 2 in fact to sec east rivals. It sucks no other way to spin it. Staff better pick it up and get yannick, Rodgers and David Williams.
This doesn't mean fans don't have faith and don't think we can't win without rolin and Langley, but fans want to win the sec and you need the horses to do it

Can't ever blame a kid for making the best of his official visits. He gets to see places where he's never been and gets the royal treatment while he's there. Sure, there's always that chance that some coach will fill him full of BS and get him to turn but that usually comes from kids not 100% committed. Last thing we need is to be put in the same catagory as Dabo and start yanking offers to kids making visits.

I know how message boards work and I also know numerous people on the football team. They pay attention to what this place is saying about them.

Okay, I understand what you are saying, but I respectfully disagree. Also, AA and Holloman were Spurs, and Jeffrey would have been better physically in the secondary (imagine a 6'4 235 LB safety in the SEC.. shudder) We need to stop going after tweeners. Tweeners at LB's are the reason why our run D has been bad in the past. I love to see us recruit big boys like Kaiwan Lewis (6'1 225 out of HS) who will get to be 6'1-6'4 240-260 lbs over their career at USC. The Bamas and LSUs all have those big LB's who stuff the run. I'm glad we finally focused on the LB position, it'll be refreshing to have some highly touted natural LB's in the system (Lewis, Coop, Bryant, Johnson, Turner if he stays at LB, etc etc)

It pains me to admit this, especially given our recent success, but you can't change history. The UGAs and UFs of the world have an edge when it comes what they can advertise to recruits concerning tradition, just take a look at their trophy cases. This isn't to say that we can't bring in high profile guys, because we are starting to do it with more consistency than ever; just look at our team winning percentage over the last years years as well as the increase in NFL draftees. It took time for every traditional powerhouse out there to build up their programs, and it isn't any different with us. IT TAKES TIME and there are always bumps in the road. Yes, the recent de-commitments are frustrating, but just sit back take a look at how far we have come, sometime it just takes a little perspective. A large number of guys that put on the garnet and black for us on Saturdays wouldn't even have considered us in the past. Lets just enjoy success while it happens.

Yeah, just saying since we have a late spot to fill I would prefer risking on a guy who could at least help out on special teams ya' know or maybe be a good spur or SS as opposed to a juco MLB type who can't help out as many places if he's a bust.
Hopefully Lewis and Coop are legit or we might be a little effed. I guess maybe if we start seeking out the juco's too hard that might speak to the coaches' opinion on that. |
