I don't follow recruiting much until this time of year...so can someone help me condense some of this information?
1. We have 3 slots remaining for this class? Is that negotiable at all or is that pretty much it. 2. Linebackers are a big need, and we had one decommit. To replace Rolin we have Powell, Ngaquay (sp) and possibly Foster. Are we taking more than one? 3. Williams (RB) is a pretty solid silent commit? If so, do we really only have 2 slots remaining? 4. DL has two guys still interested in us in Senat and Adams. Adams is rated higher, but Senat is more likely to sign with us based on comments? So all of that stuff above may be wrong, I'd just like to know out of these guys who we are most likely to get, who you would most like to have, and where our class would end up should we land the ones you want. I am asking guys that follow this stuff more than I do...thanks for your time. |

Yeah, I don't think there's anything to see here from a South Carolina perspective. Recruiting is a strange beast, so anything is possible, but this young man doesn't come across as a "look at me" type person with the way he has been relatively quiet during the entire process, so I don't think he's trying to be dramatic. With that said, I think it's UGA or Clemson for him.

Yes, BUT in order to get that "bounce" from playing in the big game one would think that you have to play well. However, when we played in that game, even though we got blistered, we still got a little recruiting bounce out of it. I still think if we had won or even played well the bounce would have been magnified by 10.

Is that David Williams or Taj Williams? I was reading where both are very high about us.
Also how about Foster, Adams, and Alexander?

David Williams .. Like Greg Bryant before, people need to give up on Taj Williams. Staff currently isn't pushing for him.
It is unlikely USC gets a visit from Adams, Foster, and Alexander. If they did, they would be the biggest player with Alexander.

He still is in play. Provided he takes his scheduled visit, turning him is very possible.

Sure hope we are able to sign either Wiggins or Alexander. Wiggins I know is undersized, but from what I hear he balls out. I guess he is similar in playing style to Vic Hampton? I am alright with that.

In this day and age of early commitments, kids changing their mind is not that unusual. I think we were spoiled last year when everyone hung with us. I think what we are experiencing is more in line with everyone except Bama. |

Didn't Foster decommitt from Bama before committing/decommitting from Auburn?

When you recruit with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and LSU you are going to lose kids time to time. Heck the big schools usually steal prospects from each other all of the time. Its just the nature of the beast. When you get into this league of recruiting, its cut throat. Those schools typically have the best staffs that recruit the best players and they keep recruiting players until NSD even if they are committed to other schools because you just never know.
The only reason I got upset with Rolin is because he was a legacy, and I'll keep standing by the thought that you should never, ever lose a legacy to another school.

Maybe this belongs in the "what our coaches can be doing better" thread, but I feel like I read a lot of these updates where we are in touch, but it seems half hearted. Whereas UGA and Clemson are entusiatically after a kid like this and keep after to him to secure a visit. Our staff should be exhausting every possible legal communication they can with any top recruit at this point and stay on them and get them on campus. I could certainy be wrong, but hope we are really hammering away at Adams, Foster, Wiggins, Alexander, etc...... |

I just posted this in the Adams thread, and I have no basis for this, just a hunch, but it seems the recruiting at other schools is relentless as far as getting a kid to visit. I read a lot of these updates where a kid says something like "I like USC, but have not heard from them in a week and not sure I will visit there." I know there are limits on communication, but if our staff is not maxing out the allowable communications channels for prospects and commitments, then they are not doing do their job.
I'd like us to have a coordinator who loves to talk to these kids, loves the challenge of selling our program, can sell it effectively and is relentless - careful not to be overbearing though and used car salesman-ish - but that is the art of selling. I want a guy who lives it and hates to lose a player when he feels he is best suited for our program. I just don't get the feeling we have that. I know our coaches can certainly evaluate talent and are not star gazers, but I'd like to see them close better and with some vigor! |

I would think he compares more to the kid that played at Georgia a few years back Tim Jennings. They have very similar size and ability.

550lb bench press. Also a high character kid which is so under valued in recruiting imo. He would certainly be a great asset to our Roster on and off the field.
