Yeah, let's get laughed at like Tennessee about getting Gruden as our next HC. He is a NFL guy. I doubt he coaches again or else he would have already been back by now. He has an easy job making big money.
I doubt SOS has any concrete idea on when he retires, so the talk of replacement is so premature, it's pointless. We equally have no idea of who will be available at that future time and it is a little presumptive to thimk we can get whoever we want. We got SOS because the timing was perfect and the day he resigned from the Redskins I said he would be our next coach. Not because we were a program magnet for coaches, but because it made sense. He left in midseason, so it would seem likely he would take a full year away to determine if he wanted back in coaching. When he did, it seemed his first preference would be the conference he grew up following, played in and coached in, the SEC. Furthermore, he had mentioned many times about having coaches and achieving firsts, like at Duke and at UF. Could you see him out on the West coast on the Big 10? Possible, but not probable. Lastly, we were the only gig open and he had a friendship with Lou, which also helped. We met his needs. Let's worry about this when he leaves and not before.

Spurrier is having too much fun to retire.
Also, why does everyone seem to be inlove with Gruden? He has virtually no college coaching experience apart from a couple of years as an assistent WR coach. I would much rather have a proven college coach and recruiter than someone who has never been a head coach at the college level. |

What he says and how he feels are two different things on this subject.

I don't get all the fascination with Gruden coaching on the college level either. He's a guy who has shown over and over again that he doesn't have the patience to work with and develop younger players (especially qbs). And people want him as a head coach of their college team? No thank you.

Don't see it happening this year but I do think it is possible if spurrier retires in a couple. There were many who would have laughed at Carolina for thinking spurrier would come here.

Spurrier will keep his promise to Connor Mitch. That is why he took a 2017 contract extension. He can add years as long as it takes him to win.

If Steve retires, fine.
But please dear lord do not hire Gruden. He hasn't coached in a looong time. He has never been head coach at a college team. He has never been on the recruiting trail. He runs a pro-style offense that has shown to be a catastrophic failure at the college level, mainly because it requires tons of reps and it focused on timing that you cannot perfect in the limited practice time available for college kids. Let some other idiots hire him and let their program crumble.

The whole Jon Gruden thing is getting worse than the Mike Leach rumors back in the day.

Here's what I like. We technically don't have an offensive coordinator. Hire Gruden as that lol. We'd be running Spider 3 Y-bananas like it's nobody's business.

First off Gruden isn't going anywhere while he's cashing checks from both ESPN and Tampa Bay. Once his Tampa contract expires he most likely will seriously consider getting back into coaching. By then maybe Spurrier will be ready to retire but I'm not betting on it. Spurrier finally has a coaching staff and hopefully a stable of QB's that can have him contending for the SEC on a yearly basis. As long as he's competing and having fun doing it he will be coaching for years.

So nobody else gets that this was a joke and he did it for every matchup, even though somebody posted it above?
Come on folks... I expect better from you.

Am I the only person who realizes Gruden isn't a great coach?? He had one great season with an unbelievably talented team and won a super bowl against his former team that was calling all the same plays......... I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
EDIT: Just saw Kick_ball's post... I'm not alone. 2nd EDIT: just saw that it was a joke... thank God... and that's pretty funny bit by Forde.

Gruden is a douche, when Spurrier leaves we need to take someone young on staff and give them a shot (GA or Whammy)
