Can see why people think he's a perfect fit for Urban Meyer's offense and why OSU would presumably be the team to beat if they ever offer.

He does have a really good arm though. Release is slower but much stronger/better velocity than Connor Mitch IMO- purely based off of the highlights I've seen.

Ugh, another running quarterback......I like him, but mostly because he's tall and seems to have a pretty strong, accurate arm. I'm tired of the offense revolving around the quarterback's ability to run. I like a mobile quarterback, but mostly because he can move well enough to throw it to somebody else.

Here are Barker's final junior season stats: 2,072 yards passing 1,455 yards rushing & 40 total TDs.

His current rankings: #5 overall QB with Scout; #3 Dual Threat QB with Rivals, #3 dual threat QB with 247.

He would, without a doubt, be the highest rated QB we've signed under Spurrier, if we land him. In fact, he would probably be the 2nd highest rated QB we've EVER signed (after Todd Ellis, who was supposedly the #1 QB recruit in the country in the pre-computer ranking/minimal scouting service days...his signing was a major coup back then).

From everything I can glean on-line, we're still in great shape with Barker. Obviously, the Ohio State shadow still looms, but Mangus is all over this kid, and Barker doesn't rank anyone ahead of us.

I'd love to see him in a Gamecock uniform. He has great size, terrific athleticism and toughness, and a sweet, natural throwing motion. In fact, "natural" is the word that keeps coming to mind when watching his videos...it all seems so easy for him...there is nothing at all mechanical about this kid.

By the way, he did say at one point that he might commit somewhere as early as December or January...and definitely before the spring...so word might come very soon, unless he has changed his timetable.

That is pure Internet speculation, because Barker hasn't said anything of the sort. Ohio State hasn't offered yet, because they are also heavily in the mix (even leading, according to reports) for 4 other top 10 QBs in the class. Yes, apparently Ohio State is favored to land 5 top 10 QBs--it seems everyone wants to play freakin' QB for Urban Meyer! Clearly, Meyer won't sign, or even offer, all 5. It is entirely possible that Ohio State will choose to focus on one or two of the other top 10 QBs, which would leave Gamecock country as the most likely destination for Barker--he has clearly stated that we are the favorite among all of his current offers.

Even if Ohio State does offer Barker, they will probably take 2 quarterbacks in the class, since they have so many elite options to pull from. Barker can choose to compete with another top 10 guy there...or come here, where we've made it clear he is our number one choice for the class (and the only QB we'll take if he commits here).

Another factor to consider: He called his visit here his favorite, and he nearly committed on the spot. This was AFTER he'd already made a visit to Ohio State.

Now, if Ohio State tells Barker that they've considered all of their options and that he is officially their #1 guy, there's a good chance we lose him to Meyer.

And he'll likely still get offers from some other big schools (Notre Dame and LSU are talking to him, for example), but they would have to overtake our lead (among offers) with the kid, and he is extremely comfortable with Mangus (they talk for about 20 minutes on the phone each week, according to Barker).

When one considers all of the factors above...you have to really like our chances.
