If he can get a fumble recovery for a TD or a Pick six or two.... Its hard to get a fumble recovery for a TD when you are the one creating the fumble though..... He did play a lot of "O" in high school though ....

I would rather him not play any O. If he wins, he wants to be the first True defensive player to win it. I believe he could have picked off a few balls this year, but he just chose to bat it down instead. When he has the Heisman on his mind, he will be grabbing those this year.

you can count about 2 or 3 plays he overran in most of the games this year.

Imagine if those disruptions become actual sacks next year.

I agree. But he will still probably need to score off of fumbles and or interceptions. No player has ever won the heisman without scoring. Apparently getting sacks and tackles for loss is not enough. That I disagree with because he is clearly a factor on every play and must be accounted for.

Yet it still has yet to bring elite DE's our way or at least more than a sniff of curiousity.. just don't get it- we have the most talented and one of the more publicized DE's ever to play in college, and have developed him perfectly......

and what te'o showed too is that having a team in the national title game is what will propel a defensive player into a legitimate chance for national player of the year awards. especially when the main offensive candidates are on teams with at least two losses. if clowney is in new york let alone the favorite it almost would certainly mean we're in the sec title game with a trip to the national title game on the line.

its a question whether the coaches would do something like throw a pass his way to boost his heisman chances, but its something for discussion next year and something i seriously doubt.

I think there is a possibility that he could win it without scoring. I think if he threw up some crazy numbers in other categories like 6 or 7 FF, with like 2 or 3 of those having recoveries after would be enough in addition to tackles, sacks, and TFL.

Basically, if we win the SEC and are playing for the national title, he will be a prime candidate because he's the name that already has mind share with the talking heads for SC football. So if we win 'em all he'll have a great shot.

I don't believe a true defensive player will ever win the Heisman. If it was going to happen, it would have happened this year, as this has been the "year of the defenses" in college ball.
I wish him luck, and I HOPE that he can break the barrier, but my mind is telling me that it isn't going to happen.

The only other defensive player to even sniff the Heisman Was Hugh Green, runner-up to Big George, no other D-player has gotten that close as far as I know, it is a "beauty pageant award", usually given to either a QB or a RB, it's a shame they don't given more favor to defensive players when considering the award, but if Clowney gives his all, a Heisman could be just the...
