I have to hand it to them, that's pretty shrewd. So what can we do about that situation if you do criticize the coaches? We sold the guy on us late in the game, we were his choice after he had made all of his visits, going into the dead period, and a visit from the A&M staff to the parents while he was with us convinced them that was a better place to go. Not sure how much more we could do, just being honest.

Our recruiters def give up on guys who they feel are "locks". Early playing time is obviously not working in our favor as far as recruiting. At this point they should be focused on getting a WR

USC has to stay the course and stick to their plan. Make solid camp evaluations, lock down the state in strong years (haven't had one of these in a while), and recruit the Atlanta-metro and Charlotte areas. Then go pick around places where your coaches have ties (NJ, parts of FL, western PA). This is the blueprint that has given us an SEC East title and possible back to back 11 win seasons.

Actually, Crowell and Dyer were VERY good and lived up to their 5 star billing early on.. those rankings don't account for being dumbasses though. The talent was there. So not the best comparison

None of this will happen, but the way I think the NCAA should handling recruiting:
------------------------ No recruitment can begin before the first day of school of a student-athlete's Junior year. No verbal or written offer can be made before the first day of school of his Senior year. A recruit may not make a verbal committment before the first day of school his Senior year. Once a recruit makes a verbal commitment to a school, this information will be forwarded, immediately to the NCAA who will post this information no later than noon on the next working day (M-F) on the NCAA website, or noon a day later if they are informed too late to update on the day they received this information. It is up to coaches for all programs to check for updates, daily, to determine if a recruit they are following has committed. At such time of the posting, no coaches from other programs may continue any form of contact. The program to which the student-athlete has committed may continue weekly contacts as noted below. If a student-athlete changes his mind, the NCAA will be contacted by the program that held the committment and the NCAA will post said information on their website as before, opening recruitment back up by all interested programs. Each recruit may be called once a week by only one coach of a program (as to actual contact made). There are no "dead periods of contact" as long as the one call a week is made. This will be available year round. A recruit may phone any program and make contact with one coach each week, if he so chooses. This will be available year round. All coaches may make contactonly by use of a school provided phone whose record of use might be reviewed at any time by the NCAA to insure compliance of proper phone contact. Each program is only allowed to send one letter (regular mail) per week to each recruit and one e-mail or tweet a week. The recruit may do the same, once a week, if he so chooses. This will be available year round. The recruits may only phone into numbers provided by the school. Hours of contact by phone may not be any earlier than 9AM and may not be made any later than 9PM. The length of the call may not exceed one hour. Family members or relatives of a recruit are not allowed to make intentonal contact with any coach or school except during a time of an in home visit by the coaching staff or only in the normal effort to locate a recruit for a scheduled phone contact or personal visit with the student-athlete. The HC may visit the recruit at school one time in person, similar to an in home visit. Other coaches on the staff may visit for practices or games, but not have personal contact with the recruit. The HC may have one in home visit and may have as much staff with him at that time as the family will allow. The recruit is allowed the maximum of two unoffical visits to any school, not counting regularly scheduled coaching clinics for HS student-athletes. They are allowed up to five Offical visits, but only one at any particular school. NSD will be the first weekday of February and all recruiting and contact will end 72 hours prior to that date. Student athletes will have no more than two weeks after NSD to make a decision and fax in their LOI to their school of choice, if they are in good standing with academics and with the SAT. Students who qualify later may commit later to their school of choice as long as there is room on their roster. No school shall accept more than thirty LOI in each signing class. ----------------------------------- While this would not end bending the rules, it would do more good than harm. With sufficient but not excessive contact, it would seemingly diminish, for some student-athletes, an ego build up and allow them more freedom to enjoy school and family time, like normal. It benefits him and his family by fewer phone calls or other interuptions.

Locking up legacies
Keep the talent in-state (SC was thin this year and didn't do a great job this cycle losing Hill/Terry) |

It's hard for me to call Manziel over rated since as a RS Freshman with not much of a running game he guided A&M to a 10 win season in the SEC and beat Bama in there house all while breaking Cam Newtons SEC record. If Shaw could learn how to get rid of the ball he could be just as dangerous, but that's another discussion. With Crowell and Dyer yes they had all the tools much like Derrick Watson and Demetrius Summers did but that's why I included the fact that the coaches assess character as well as ability. Sure a team will take a chance on a player with that kind of ability but the trick is seperating the talented players worth the risk and the ones who are a cancer in the locker room/weight room/film room/class room.

We did get some good NC talent in Bryant and Cooper, 2 of their top 5 I'd say.

Interesting.
Will Grier is the QB instead of Connor Mitch, and nowhere is Pharoah Cooper to be found. http://www.highschoolot.com/fieullet...team/11888974/ Last edited by carolinacoast; 12-19-2012 at 08:02 PM. |

How would you know, and don't assume, because you know what they say about people who assume.

hmm, odd that Cooper didn't make the list. Also, where was Mitch? He set a whole lot of records.

I think the NC media might be a little biased. The Charlotte Observer did a bad job with the Top Thirty South Carolina players earlier in the year. They boosted two players that UNC was involved with who didn't deserve the higher slots. That said, Will Grier set records too. Tough call.
Also, TJ Logan was the Player of the Year. Last edited by carolinacoast; 12-19-2012 at 08:32 PM. |

Grier and Mitch both put up rather insane numbers (NC QBs seem to do that; Joe Cox threw for 4,500 yards and 66 TDs in his senior year alone) and you can make a case for either of them.

I wish we would at least wait until kids commit elsewhere to start bashing them, and not start when they have a visit to another school that supposedly went well
