And yes I remember when spurrier said that. It was last off season correct? This season shaw didn't throw very many good deep throws. They were almost all underthrown.

But he threw nice ones in 2011. So it's possible his injury was the cause.
first, this is like the fourth time i have seen you write this ridiculousness. so listen carefully pant, without velocity, you can't achieve distance. they are directly related. it's simple physic's. the term arm strength encompasses several aspects, and distance is one of the more important ways most professionals gauge the arm strength of a qb.
second, yes, connor threw more deep balls in 2011 than this past season. and of course it has to do with having a fractured scapula, fractured foot/high ankle sprain. you would have to be pretty thick not to easily get that distinction. so people need to stop saying connor has a weak arm. once healthy, i'm sure he will go back to launching it down field. we could see this as early as the bowl game.

Your second paragraph said that. It's not velocity or distance that makes a QB successful unless there is a solid sense of accuracy involved. Chad Pennington couldn't throw a football through a wet paper bag but he was more successful than Ryan Leaf who had the golden arm. The true great QBs made it by knowing where the ball was going to go when they released the football.

Or more importantly, placing the ball where they knew it would go.....lol, but also true is the velocity factor, being able to get the ball from A to B in a quick, timely fashion. Most times a QB isn't given enough time to heave the ball the length of the field for a WR to catch it. It helps if the WR can generate some YAC to make up the difference...if the QB and WR can time the pattern, throw the ball to the proper spot, and catch the ball all before a defender can interfere, then very often you wont need to have to heave the ball 50, 60 yds downfield...that also becomes very important in the red zone, when you only have 20 or so yds to work with, and the defense is all concentrated...
