Villanova's Tyronne Johnson transferring to USC

For those who dont visit the recruit section, Gamecock Central reporting on FB that former Villanova guard Tyrone Johnson will transfer to the Gamecocks for next season.

Johnson is a 6'3 PG, and was a 4-star prospect in 2011. He has three years left of basketball eligibility, after transferring following his freshmen season with the Wildcats.

"Johnson will enroll at South Carolina for the 2013 spring semester and will be eligible to play on Dec. 17th, which is the day after South Carolina's 2013 Fall semester exams end."

We have 3 Sr's graduating, 4 guys coming in (if Tyrone comes). Tyrone has to sit out a year, so we only have 3 scholarship and 3 coming in, so it's a wash. right?

Those guards will all be eligible to play after Dec. 17th 2013, and will all be on the roster for next season. Johnson will essentially sit out the rest of this season as his "sit-out" year. I guess we could run a lot of 3-guard lineups for next season, with Jackson graduating after this season.

Other than Leonard who hasn't shown much improvement over the years other than some effective minutes defensively, the others are showing to be substantial contributors in Coach Martin's system: Williams has turned into our top scorer, Smith is the top point guard as the main ball handler and distributor, Richardson is a top perimeter shooter for us and 2nd in 3-pt. FG % only to Williams. And Ellington has been our top scorer and "go-to" man on the floor his entire career and will probably rise in the team stats in production once the bowl game has concluded.

But I don't think anyone will be an odd man out....we'll have some bit of a log-jam at G next season, then when those 4 graduate after next season we'll need a lot of guards to replace them...

Martin is the kind of guy who takes pride in turning kids around, he'll have him coached up in no time.

Sindarius is a 4-star on Rivals and ESPN, but a 5-star on Scout. Either way really good prospect. Top 40-45 recruit from an NBA breeding ground.

It seems clear that Martin favors Richardson more than Leonard, and both are shooting specialists, with Richardson being able to do a little more. Richardson saw his minutes decrease last year with Leonard coming in, so it's interesting seeing the opposite happen this year.

I agree about Leonard.. to me he doesn't look like he is putting everything he has into it. He is VERY lack luster on defense and always seems to be out of position and not with it. His shot is inconsistent and he doesn't really have any other offensive tools. I was hoping for big things out of him because I was proud to have a ball player on the team from Greenville. Maybe the light will come on for him?

Reflects the difference in coaching ability. Martin is looking for different things in his players than Horn was. Looking from afar, I like all of our players. They all seem like good young men. But Leonard is not as athletic and skilled in the various aspects of basketball as Richardson is.

again..rankings out of high school arent the be all end all to how good a guy will be. never have and never will.

Speculation: Leornard will transfer, and I expect Bruce to not play and prepare for football career. I like both guys, but they aren't going to help us moving forward.
