I always worry about new running shoes. They have to be worn before a long run or race. New shoes take a little time to adjust. The design is a nod to Louis Vuitton and other high end handbag makers. UA would disagree with that!

The high tops are probably mostly for the bigger interior O and D linemen.....the skill players might wear them too, but they typically get their ankles taped up from heel to halfway up their calves anyway, and the tape is over their shoes, so if they're wearing high-tops you can't see them. Most OL and DL do not have their ankles taped unless they are dealing with injuries, so the higher laces help with added stability. But even the pro big men like the high-tops: look at SSO's post just below yours, and at his gif sig of the Panthers sacking Oakland's Palmer. All 3 big men in the gif are either wearing high-top sleds, or have their ankles taped making it look like high-tops....
