Yes we have taken from Michigan State, unlike another "University" in this state that won't admit it, however Spartans is refering to old Spartan Rifles during the Revolutionary War, so at least we continued to honor the Rifles, wished we had stayed the Rifles. From what I understand the reason why we changed Mascots was because it considered too violent for the upgrade to D-1. So Spartans became the next mascot We have original logos at least. Besides Miami uses the U for University kinda stupid really, we actually have a real use of the U.
