Why was Ace flagged?

They called a facemask on blockers three times twice in the line and once down field on a screen or draw dont remember. Yes they were more extreme than hands to the face but i rarely see oline called in college. I was just commenting on seeing it not saying it was called enough

Did Ace strain his knee late in the game? The trainers helped him walk off but it looked like he was worried he had damaged a knee.

still amazes me how few holding calls there are. I mean that left tackle was about as legit as ive seen in a while, but he was holding all game.

The officiating overall wasn't that bad, but there were three calls that
went against us that were absolutely rediculous with no basis whatsoever.

The roughing the kicker call, the unsportsmanlike conduct after Ace's TD
and of course the phantom first down call

Unbelieveable comment by Steve Spurrier about that mark after the game.
Todd Ellis asked him to explain what was going in down there. Spurrier
said he saw the sticks go down and saw immediately that our defense had
stopped them short then saw the official signal first down. He walked over
and asked them to spot it again, and that's when Spurrier pointed to the
ground to show him it was a couple of inches short, but the official shook
his head and signaled first down again. Spurrier said he thought quickly
that he would challenge the spot and got them to look at it, but he said
on the radio he knew they wouldn't overturn the call.....He said when
they were reviewing it, he walked over to the other official that was
holding the ball and asked him if he saw that it was behind the stick and
he said "Yes"....Spurrier said why didn't you say it was short ? ...He
said the official told him "I don't know" ?!?!?!?

Well said Spur. I said to my son after the Ace flag that this ref must be a Michigan Alum. The phantom 1st down, retribution by Clowney and then the Ace TD all in a row. I think he was pissed and threw the flag on Ace.

And, that extra yardage really made a difference too. The ref got exactly what he wanted - good field position for UM.

In the post game interview Ace said he had the whole team laying on top of him. So he asked the ref. what the flag was for. The ref. said unsportsmanlike conduct. I guess Ace was celebrating under the pile of players that was on top of him. Of course not even Ace knew he was celebrating, but that ref. sure did.

I thought that Michigan got away with a lot of holding calls on our D-Line, especially against JD, but that happens every game he plays in. Maybe we should teach our boys on our O-Line to learn how to "hold better" because it goes on so much now and is rarely called unless you see a jersey being pulled off or a face mask being pulled on.

i saw an interview with ref who threw the flag on ace and he said and i quote "well, i was the only ref who hadn't thrown a flag all day and i certainly wasn't going home without throwing one and that seemed like a good time."..end of quote
