It was fun watching our passing game wasn't it? Connor threw one that went 60yds in the air and Dylan threw one 58yds.

I agree that the returning players with experience should help some, but who are these new faces? Incoming freshman? I don't remember a true freshman or RS freshman making a true impact on the OL in many years. However, every year we have posters say that a freshman will help on the OL. My point is that we need major improvement along the OL immediately or we will have another talent filled roster coming up short on their goals. No matter how good our passing game becomes, we have to run the ball effectively against the powerhouses on our schedule on a week in and week out basis. We have too much talent at running back not to have one of the best running games in the SEC, but they need an effective OL to showcase their skills.

Huh? Are you aware that UM had the #2 defense against the pass in the country going into the game? They were only allowing 155 yards passing per game. Our players and coaches deserve even more credit for our air attack because of it.

We should have run the zone-read more....it opens up the inside zone plays...we're worried about Connor getting hurt...and he did. |

It was a great game for our passing attack, no doubt. But, isn't this the running game... thread?

the running game should be fine next year, all it needs is reps and diversity. we do need an answer at fb for however much we'll use the fb and for the te's to replace justice as a blocker.
this game was a bit of an extreme, but we cant end up in a situation with the rb's carrying it less than 15 times and expect to win against good teams next year. |

It's the inexperience, an offseason of conditioning and back in the film room with all of the real game experience that the new OL starters had combined with new talent coming in and off of redshirts, we'll be better. Teams don't start 3 new guys (and then a 4th as the season progresses) on the OL and run effectively, add on top of that all of the blitzing Michigan did to stop the run, and you have the results you saw, but really, it doesn't bode as badly as you think, that's not much worse than how they should've played in that situation.

The key is the oline. I think we all agree there are talented RBs but there are rarely holes for them to run through. After watching the game yesterday I'm really not convinced lack of talent is the main issue. Matched up one on one the guys dis okay with the straight rush yesterday. However when Michigan did anything including stunts or twists the guys looked lost and routinely missed blocks. The question is then are they not capable of picking up the coaching or is the coaching for this area lacking?

Did Mike Davis touch the ball other than the one reception he had? With the end result of the game put aside for a moment, I really thought yesterday was a waste of a year of eligibility for Carson and of a game for Davis.

Like someone else said, we only handed off to the RB 5 times. We didn't line up in the I-formation the whole game from what I can remember. There wasn't a lot of creativity or misdirection when we did try to run. I probably would have given Davis and Carson some more carries, but we did score 33 points.

I don't know if I can handle another year where we run the ball from shotgun. Holy shit is that ineffective. Line up in the damn I formation, pull a guard, and RUN the ball. We did this a few times this year and were effective doing so. I just for the life of me cannot understand why we don't do this more often.

I actually liked UM's formation with 3 RB's on the field to confuse the defense. I wish Coach Spurrier would borrow that play from Brady Hoke's playbook.
