for Connor Shaw. From Josh Kendall via twitter:
Josh Kendall @JoshatTheState Connor Shaw will have foot surgery Friday, and Steve Spurrier doesn't expect him to be ready for spring practice. http://bit.ly/S7dxoZ ($)

This is a good thing for his foot healing, but now we'll see even more QB debate as Connor won't be taking any Spring snaps. Storylines like 'can Connor come back in the Fall and win back the starting job?' etc.

Will he be able to run the same? If he loses a step, his upside goes way down.

I'm sure he will be able to run just fine after it is all healed up. Also, anyone know what kind of surgery he is having or for what part of the foot? Reason I ask is my dad is a podiatrist (foot doc) and I could get some perspective to share.

I doubt Connor would have gotten much reps this spring as it was.....established upper-classmen starters typically get the fewest rep time in the spring, and the younger players and players further back on the depth charts that haven't gotten a lot of reps in-game in possession scenarios (not special teams) generally get the lion's share of reps. The spring is where the younger players get instruction from the staff on fundamentals and technique...where they develop their skills. The coaches see who out of the younger players are best prepared for moving up the depth charts and possibly earning starting spots as replacements for starters who have moved on from the previous season.
The coaches also use spring camp to determine what still needs to be addressed with the younger players, and give them instructions and task lists on what to work on during the summertime, as well as determine what the S&C staff will make sure those players work on. By the fall camp, a better idea is theoretically developed on which of the younger players are ready to step up and become major contributors, so that the majority of fall camp can be focused on forming up those 2-deep units, getting them to gel together as units, and then preparing for the opening game of the season.... Upperclassmen like Connor who have had multiple camps and years of starting experience do not (SHOULD NOT) need that much one-on-one development time with the staff in the spring...it's more just fine-tuning and/or getting the rust off and regaining their timing and reflexes from the previous season. Connor will be fine by the time Fall Camp rolls around.....

Probably going to have some screws put in or something. I'm curious to see if they work on his shoulder this offseason as well.
Oh, and the coaches have said that players can't lose their starting job due to injury.

This is good for two reasons, one, Shaw's health and development. Two, we will get to see how Nosovitch and Mitch do in spring practice. Maybe more now than before. Also, Dylan will have a lot of time to develop with the first string guys on the team.

How many guys are having foot surgery this offseason? Shaw, Clowney, and others?

USC will have not one but two of the two best returning SEC QBs in 2013.

Is Under Armor fronting the bill for the surgery?

In your video loop, does it look like the quarterback originally goes after the helmet as if he thought it was the ball ? Anyone else see what I mean ?
