Pre-Draft Evaluation: DJ Swearinger

I thought this was a pretty good write-up on DJ. Author seems to be impressed with DJ's coverage skills and his ability to move his hips with little wasted motion. He also feels DJ need to improve tackling in space.

He tackles with his shoulder a little too much. Culliver did the same thing.

Needs to wrap up more.

This. It's either big hit or miss sometimes. Love his heart and motor, but he needs to improve on the basics of making tackles without trying to blow somebody up everytime.

Very good write up on DJ. Yeah that guy knows his stuff. I hope DJ balls out at the combine and gets drafted in the first two rounds.

Yes, he showed that in the bowl game. He went in for a hit instead of a tackle and the guy spun away from him so it was just a glancing blow by DJ instead of a tackle.

Only knock on DJ is he can't seem to stay healthy... always coming down with Grind Flu.

Also, possibly a weight gain concern as he STAY EATIN.

Yea there was a play where Denard Robinson or Maybe it was Devin Gardner just trucked through him because he lead with his shoulder in open field.

I think I know which one you are talking about but it was in the first half and it was one of Robinson's first couple of carries. DJ went for the hit which would have been like a 4-5 yard gain and Denard turned it into 8 or 9.

If I recall it was a third down conversion in the 2nd half.
Few beers deep by that point but I think it was Dennard.
We could have stopped them on third down conversion that's for sure.

He has a tendency to go for the strip as well, saw more than a few plays where he went to strip the ball and missed and the ball carrier continued on for a few more yards.

He absolutely needs to improve his tackling.

He often just throws a shoulder at the guy and in the NFL that = missed tackle.
