Maybe We're Not So Stacked at RB After All

1. Marcus is gone
2. Kenny is gone
3. Carson will go one-dimensional with baseball (apparently)

That leaves us...

Wilds (Closest thing to a Marcus clone -- excellent, but returning from injury)

Davis (The Tasmanian Devil who can chew up yards -- excellent)

Salley? (No idea; returning from injury)

Blue? (Will he get a scholly this year? Is he good enough?)

Jamari Smith? (Will he redshirt?)

Williams? What are the chances we get him? 33%? 50%? 75%?

Wilds, Davis, Salley, Smith and possibly Williams will be more than enough. Doesn't take freshmen very long to be ready to contribute some at RB. So even if Carson doesn't return, we will still be good on talent and bodies.

We're not 'loaded' I would say, but we certainly have enough talented guys for running the ball like we did against Michigan. To remind everyone, our runningback ran the ball 5 times for 2 yards. I know that won't be the norm for next year, but we'll be asking our starters to run maybe 10-12 times per game against most teams.

My point is, give me some decent blocking, and receiving RBs (could use Bruce too), let Shaw do his thing, and I think we've got just what we need at the RB position.

Since we still tend to feature one guy, we really don't need to be "loaded" to win lots of games.

Still think Jamari Smith could be a big time player for us...

Carson will return, I think. We will have plenty. Wilds is a great number 1, as is Davis, Wallet is a great short yardage guy. That's four.

I just hope that we can get an OL that will be able to open up lanes for the RB's next season. Maybe if this occurs the coaches will get rid of the Damiere Byrd sweep for three yards play.

Some of you will be surprised by Salley, some of you already know he's the real deal. I got to personally witness him a bunch and am good friends with one of his HS coaches. I can't wait to see him in garnet and black.

As long as Shaw is here and healthy we don't need a bunch of RBs. We need one healthy guy that can block for the QB (Thompson or Shaw) and with Shaw running the read option and the RB getting a few carries they will be fine. We are not going to run a pro set or I formation running set very often. Shaw and whoever at RB will be enough. It's way more important that the RB be able to pick up blitzes.

We are loaded at RB. Davis is a stud, Wilds is solid, Salley tore it up in bowl practice, and Carson is not just gonna quit football. He simply said he didn't want to be here for 6 years. And now we just got David Williams. Add in Jamari Smith as well. How could we not be stacked?

We'll be fine. Wilds did a fine job last year when Marcus and Kenny were out, and Davis is very good. Williams apparently is a boss so we will have plenty of depth in the RB department. Added to that, i think we will be moving away from the 30+ runs per game that we did with Lattimore, especially if Connor Mitch is as good as advertised.

If the OL sucks like it did this year we could have Barry Sanders & Eric Dickerson back there and we'd still put up 100 or less a game.

I usally dont post till baseball season but this was exactly my thoughts also I often wonder what Marcus could of done with a little better blocking
