I'm certainly guessing not 11-2...more like 9-4, possibly 8-5. Without these types of game breaking players, we are right back to what we finished BEFORE they got here...

But what 5 star guys are we missing in state that are interested in coming? Marcus and Clowney were both home grown talents, unlikely to come along again for awhile like that. The next shoe to fall for us is for clempson to hit rock bottom and us get all the instate recruits we want. Anything that hastens that happening is beneficial for us.

No change. Marcus was hurt for almost all of both years and Clowney didn't even start for one of those seasons. The next guy would have stepped up. We got winners all over the place.

We have been able to sign a few elite players mainly in our own state (Lattimore and Clowney) for example, And in recent years posted 10+ wins seasons, Top 10 finishes along with a fair amount of national attention..yet I wonder why aren't we in the running for more of the top elite kids?

Different strokes for different folks. Some kids just aren't interested. Its just the way it is. All have different reasons. Our coaches don't recruit kids that don't show mutual interest and serious interest at that. For example, if Robert Nkemdiche isn't interested, we aren't going to continue to call him over and over and over and waste resources. Just not going to happen nor should it.

There are also cases where a prospect that recruiting services, and our fans, think highly of but they aren't as high on the coaches' board. I've seen a lot of that since 2009 when this run we are on started.

Our recruiting zones don't stretch country wide. Our base recruiting territory will continue to be SC, NC, GA, and a little bit of Florida. They'll flirt with some kids in AL, VA, MD, and PA but only at high schools where the staff has some connections. This is our recruiting plan that got us 9 wins w/ an SEC East title and back to back 11 win seasons. Its not broken.

And I'll say it again, and again, and again.

USC will never recruit perennial Top 5-10 classes. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

I wouldnt worry about it. Better question would be WHO rates these "Elite" players to their status? Guys in an office/media who have never coached or played football? I will be happy with the evaluation of a Heisman winner and National Champion Coach makes compared to media. Look at UGA and Clemson.....Clemson had more 5 star players than anyone in the country in last years class.........SO. Our coaches can evaluate and develop players........Enjoy the ride and leave the "What ifs" to the car salesman in orange. Ugas fans every year are ripping their Coaches for underachieving with top ten classes EVERY year....... I'll take the ones they dont want and SOS will beat them with their own mistakes.

A budget doesn't much of anything to do with it, IMO because Spurrier doesn't want his staff going outside those recruiting zones.

For example, he bugged out on an assistant that went out to visit Michael Rivera a few years ago.

Thinking like this is the only thing holding us back. Negative nancys like you will be left in dust in a few years, just like all the people that have said that USC will be a perennial 7-5, 8-4 team.

The only way we won't get consistent top 10 classes, is telling ourselves we will never have top 10 classes.

843, with all due respect, you cannot be serious. C2 is one of the most well-liked, well informed posters on this site. He has great information and is very informative. We can get great players from the states he listed. If we continue to lock down the great talent in SC, and pick really good players from GA, NC, FL, and get some steals from PA, NJ, and MD/VA area, we are going to continue to get better. We will get some top 10 classes as long as we continue to finish in the top 10 and make folks take notice. But, to knock what he is saying, is ridiculous.

I believe we will, C2 believes we won't. And by what you said above, you agree with me.

There is a massive difference between getting consistent top 10 classes and getting a top 10 class every few years you do realize that right? What you are saying is that we should be in the top 10 basically every year. What C2 and others are saying is we will be between 15-20 consistently but get a top 10 class every now and then, much like the 2007 class.
