A top ten class does not guarantee you a national championship (see klimpsun and uga) but it does give you an opportunity to get there. You can go somewhere like Texas, Fla, or California and get the #50 kid in the state and still get a high quality player. We've been lucky in SC the past few years that we've had players like Gilmore, Lattimore, and Clowney, as well as Alshon and Holliman. But we also got kids like Taylor, Johnson, and Swearinger who were not as highly ranked, yet turned out to be pretty good players. I think our coaches are doing pretty good with what they've been able to get, but I still think if we put more emphasis on it we could recruit a little better nationwide.

We also know that some schools bend or break rules in recruiting, throw $$$$ around, set up fake classes, etc., to keep them eligible.

SOS doesn't cheat. I think we have had one recruiting class in our history in the top 5. That is not a reasonable expectation.

Let's count our blessings as our recruiting has been consistently good and more importantly, getting character and team player type kids. With consistent winning seasons like we've enjoyed the past two years, we'll attract and have better access to the elusive 5-stars than years past. Go Cocks!!!

I know for a fact that SOS could get more money for recruiting but says he doesn't need it. He can get whatever he wants. This is all he feels necessary to spend. The bottom line is that the state of SC needs to produce the elite kids for us to have the top 5-8 type of class. This year wasn't one of those years. Next year might be.
