Now this may be a poor title but I wanted to start this thread to compile a bunch of people's memories of funny/great games called by announcers.
Off the top of my head I like Gus Johnson and Marv Albert. Albert brings back classic Jordan moments for me and Gus Johnson is just a maniac.. Really has some funny calls such as the Big10 Championshop game last year where Russell Wilson made a big play and he freaked out. Also, I cannot think of it now but I remember some announcer who shouted "onions!" When a player hit a three. |

Howard Cosell. You either hated him, or loved him, but he had a great way of encapsulating the moment.

I also think Doc is maybe the best announcer in ALL of sports. Hearing him call the NHL is just magic. |

Gus Johnson may be a damn good basketball/football announcer, but he is an absolute embarrassment as an MMA analyst!
Other than that, my favorite announcers are Gordon Soley and Tony Schivani! ![]()

Going way back to when I was a kid, in the early to mid 1960's, Dizzy Dean (the HOF pitcher) called the National Game of the Week on TV.
Did not matter if the game was good or not, but he is the only announcer I wanted to watch the game because of the announcer. Most of you are too young to know of him or his background, but briefly, he was a poor Southern boy from Arkansas that had next to no education and that was part of the fun of listening to him. The nearest thing I can relate to his style was Don Meredith of the original Monday Night Football broadcast team, but that still falls short. He would always tell funny anecdotes and he would butcher the English language by telling how the runner "slud" into third base, always called the pitcher coming to bat, "the slugger", usually called the second baseman "the second sacker", he would address anyone he interviewed in the booth or his co-broadcaster, "Pee Wee" Reese. "Padnuh" instead of "pardner", all in a deep Southern Accent. It would take little to prod him to sing the "Wabash Canonball" or some other country song during a delay in the game. This was all natural, no pretense of style, and while he acknowledged his poor education, he never did anything in a mocking way to belittle his past. It was just something everyone knew and accepted. If you listened to a game of his, he was just enjoying himself, the game, and kept it entertaining. Those were great memories. Ol' Diz has been gone for a long time. I think Bob Fulton even called a few games with him on the radio back in either the 1940's or 1950's.

I loved Madden and Summeral.
Also, as a kid growing up I liked Haray Carey & Steve Stone doing Cub games. Now Steve Stone is just a big douche. I think today Mike Tirico is the best play by play guy hands down. Don't care too much for Gruden.

Cosell and Jackson. Roy Firestone did a fantastic impression of Jackson back in the day. I can't find a clip of it anywhere though. This clip will give you the idea though.
