We currently have 85 on scholarship......there are 20 seniors plus Marcus that are leaving. I'm sure there will be others leaving but don't know any at this point. Of our current commits, there may be a few that don't qualify, but I don't know of any of those either. I've read on other sites, the coaches are looking to add 25-26 to this class, so they must know of others that will not be returning.

Brings us to 24 open scholarships.

That doesn't include anyone else who will choose to leave the program and we all know that kids leave every year.

C2 has a very in depth knowledge of our recruiting base and our resources and he is not off on what he states about us being in the Top 5 -10 every year. A good example would be years when you just need to fill in depth with lineman. These type of recruits won't get you the 5 stars like a QB, RB, WR, etc.

That being said, I think our coaching staff recruits to our needs and you when factor in the "unknown" about how good a high school kid will be in college is always a gamble, unless it is a Marcus Lattimore or JD Clowney who only come along about once every 10 to 15 years.

I think we are getting there, but I am happy with what our coaches have been doing with our recruiting to make us be a factor in our league now.

So we all ready have 25 people identified who will be leaving. To sign 25-26 people this year means we need 28-29 people who are on scholarship to leave in some fashion.

considering Fish has been on scholarship for 3 seasons and is yet to punt in a game, his scholarship should not be renewed so that is another that could possibly open

With no other changes, this leaves 23 available. As mentioned above, there could be more leaving.

what is wrong with being like Alabama and LSU? they don't rebuild like we will be doing in about a year or two, they reload. Because we don't get highly rated players (don't say ratings don't matter bc i would say Alabama and LSU would disagree), we will have roller coaster seasons. I like winning 11 wins in a season, but I would much rather win an SEC championship. Do i think we will overnight? no. but having this idea that we will never get highly rated players like FLA and Ala is a thinking that will get us right where we are right now, a team that is in the middle of the SEC.

Yes, Clemson gets highly rated prospects and we still beat them, but I think thats more bc our coaches can actually do their jobs. if dabo ever gets fired and the next guy can coach and recruit as well, we might be in trouble.

the point is, I love where we are with our program. but we are currently a middle of the pack SEC team that can have the possibility of winning it all. We need to be a Top SEC team that almost certainly will win it all. And that all starts with recruiting highly rated players. Im all right with getting a few prospects that we can build up, but we need players that are ready and will only get better and not players that will one day be ready

and maybe this is because im a newer fan (about the last ten years) and i never had to go through the agony of the losses of the 90's and before

Obviously he never committed at the All-Star game he was playing in. Don't know what that means for us, but hopefully his visit goes well and we're able to get this guy. Him and Griffin would be an awesome haul at DT.
