7th in the Coaches poll per Heath Cline

The final AP Poll was just released. South Carolina repeats with another Top 10 finish, only finishes one spot better than last season at #8. There you go Spurrier, yet another first. South Carolina's highest finish in the AP Poll. What did it was jumping Florida, something I was hoping for but not counting on.

I love how dabo in the postgame interview after beating LSU talked about how they'd have a top 10 finish for the first time in 22 years... well how'd that work out?

That's OK, it makes us look even better since we beat them. Spurrier is right about Clemson's success, it can only help us achieve more greatness. Don't forget their high ranking is due to the fact they play in the ACC. They simply don't play against the same level of competition as we do on a week to week basis. With the playoffs just around the corner, playing a top 10 or 15 team that's over-rated in week 12 could help get us in good graces with the selection committee. It won't be easy to finish in the top 4 playing in the SEC, so we need all the help we can get. If they are 6-5 at that point, we would have to win by 28 or more points to make a statement.

I feel the USA Today poll is more accurate not just because we were #7 but in the AP they had Vandy behind Northern Illionois and San Jose State....

Either way great day to be a Gamecock Top 10 both major polls I already can't wait for next season!!

FWIW, shows the importance of preseason rankings:

SC moved up 1 spot from their preseason ranking in the AP (44 votes), and 2 spots in Coaches (83).

Clemson moved up 3 spots in AP (279 votes), 5 spots in the Coaches (418)

Finishing 7th is awesome.. hopefully a top 5 preseason ranking will come of that.. ND will drop and UGA should as well (losing all that talent). Great time to be a GAMECOCK!
