I need some advice/suggestions. I am taking my CWP class in a few weeks, I am using my Dads .38SP for the shooting portion, and will probably carry it for a little while, but I am looking to buy a semi-auto pistol in the next few months. What would you recommend? I am looking for something under $400-$450, but may go a little over if the right funds are there and it's something I really like. My dream gun is an FN Five-Seven, but that's way out of my price range, so I'll stick with a 45 ACP or a 40 S&W.

Check your local gun stores for former police pistols. You can get used Glocks for that in in .40 S&W.

.45 is more enjoyable to shoot to me then .40 the recoil is a push more then the sharp snap. I want a FNP .45 or a nice 1911 I didn't like the .40 out of either a Glock 22 or 23.

And I do plan on firing different models and makes to see which one feels "right." I have fired a .40 S&W (not sure what make) and a 45 ACP (Although it was a 1911 Sig, wayyyy out of my price range). Keep the suggestions coming!

Anything but duck hunting, if you aren't stuck on new, go to a pawn shop and find a good looking old remington 1100 (sa) or 870 (pump). Duck hunting find you something newer and synthetic, mossberg 500 Remington 870.

Purchased a new Glock 27 Gen 4 (40 cal) this week and a Browning Buckmark. Both are impressive. That Browning is a tack driver. Impressed with both, if I could only find ammo!

Seriously look at Dimondback firearms . They are made by a gentlemen who use to work for Glock. The components are made just like a Glock. I just bought a Diamondback .380 with Criminson trace and i like it a lot. But they do have a compact 9mm that is real nice.

If you go with diamondback, make sure it is one manufactured within the last year or so, they had SERIOUS qc issues at first
