Hand is the kind of prospect that could open flood gates for USC in that region of the country. They have slowly but surely been trying to get their foots in the door in VA and MD because of all the talent there and it could have a trickle down effect if they ended up with Hand.

If USC was able to eventually start becoming a regular in the DC area, and Virginia Beach - Tidewater area .. look out.

Think CJ Spiller for Clemson. His commitment and following career put Clemson on the map in the state of Florida and they are still enjoying the benefits of it.

Hand can be that kind of guy.

Hopefully (and anticipating) Devin Taylor to show out at the combine and go potentially in the 2nd round as well. Ingram, Taylor, Potential #1 pick in '14. (Not to mention everyone else Lawing's put in will put in.)

If he likes what Lawing shows him that will be just as big as having Clowney. When he works out for Lawing IMO will be the make or break if we are in this to the end because his on the field performance is what matters to him and he wants a coach who can make him the #1 pick in the draft.

Engineering seems like a strange path for a 3 and out caliber player. As an alumni of USC engineering, i hope that we don't have to compete with VaTech on that front.

Va Yech is going down hill in a pathetic conference, and I expect Beamer to start getting a hotter seat along with some pressure to retire soon. That may help us with Hand's recruiting.

You are right. Northern Va. Has tons of untapped talent. There are like 3-5 D1 starting QBs from this area. Too often the area is ignored.

Keep an eye on Raeshawn Smith a DB from Chantilly HS. Full disclosure I am a varsity coach there. This kid didn't have a single pass completed on him. He went up against one QB, Ryan Burns, who was in the army all American game and be couldn't get a ball to his man. Kid reminds me a lot of Captain Munnerlyn. Just needs a chance and he will excel wherever he goes.

Clowney has to host him whenever he comes down for his visit. Having his idol host him on a visit to SC would be incredible for Hand and is something we have to use to our advantage.

Clowney and Lattimore were program changing recruits, Hand is a program changing recruit for an entirely different reason because this gets us even more big time national exposure to recruits and big into the state of Virginia.

Having Hand and Darius English as the defensive ends would be unstoppable.

Va Tech is going to have another rough season, I think. Tough to go up against hometown for sure (how we ended up w/ Latt and JD) but we weren't an ACC school. Get Clowney and him together.
