starting this season? (if you didn't know they have been banned since '73) and I wonder what future strategies coaches will devise to sway recruits. I see it being a slippery slope and eventually all recruits will be guaranteed 4 years.

I just don't like this. What if we offered Jadeveon a 4 year scholorship? Would he HAVE to stay all 4 years? Doubtful. So why does the school HAVE to offer them 4 years? Doesn't make sense at all.

I don't think they have to offer them, it's just an option now.

They should put some type of rule like in the 4 year scholarships. If a kid accepts a 4 year scholarship they have to stay 4 years. Kids should be given the option of year to year scholarships or 4 year scholarship. That way both groups are happy. Coaches won't be able to force all their players to take 4 years scholarships, because the free market aspect of recruiting will prevent it.

IMO, this will effect the middle tier teams in the country. The elites won't have much of a problem but the schools that fight for leftovers are going to hate this.
USC will be one of these schools especially when they go after kids that schools such as UGA pass on.

"Voluntary workouts" and a 4 year scholarship. The quality of college football just took another hit.

Meh, seems like you could easily let the kids flunk out if you didn't want them on scholarship anymore. Stupid rule. They need to quit fooking around with football so much. BCS teams are going to tell NCAA buh-bye.

Terrible idea. What happens when the 4-year scholarship player decides to goof off and not condition for whatever reason? It will be like that movie One on One with Robbie Benson.

If a player is not worth the 4 years can the coach take away the scholarship after 2 years?

Is it the type of thing that if you offer a 4 year scholarship, you have to honor it? I mean, if you get cut or something, do they still have to give you the scholarship?

This rule gaurantees a kid will get 4 years. with summers included that will get a degree. what it also gaurantees is that mediocre players and lazy players cannot be penalized.
Before spurrier, usc gave everyone a 4 year scholly. i remember the blowup when he cut some guys after arriving his first year. ct went nuts over that. now people act as if spurriers year to year policy has been around forever. |

When you say USC gave everyone 4 year scholly you mean figuratively right? I ask because 4 year schollies were literally banned by the NCAA since '73.
