ND fans currently going berserk and foaming at the mouth in every available forum. Apparently, Kelly said 3 days ago "Leaving Notre Dame is not an option"-and they are killing him for it.

Well it's not like he hasn't said such things before. He's sort of known for this stunt

ND fans will undoubtedly be pissed and scream Benedict Arnold if he takes any NFL job - they'll claim he was using Jeff Lurie as leverage for more money from ND if he does not....even if he did just sign a contract extension through 2016 with ND if I remember correctly.
IMO, I think coaches should allowed to better themselves, even if it makes them appear disloyal. Way I see it, a great player can leave after 3 years removed from HS, in basketball 1 year if that -- Kelly started at DII in Grand Rapids MI and built a dynasty, then dominated the MAC, then pretty much took over the Big East, then ND to NC, now the NFL...? From where I'm sittin, that's a steady progression up the coaching ranks not unlike moving from the mail room to the executive floor over the course a 26 year career. Ask yourself, would you stop and three quarters the way up the ladder or are you going to try to get to the top? By most accounts, Kelly is a CEO type coach who is best at assessing the talent he has & putting in a system that fits what that talent can do best. That and he seems pretty adept at surrounding himself with like-minded and talented assistant coaches & coordinators. That kind of make up in a coach translates very well to the NFL, IMO. I think he goes while the gettin's good....or he should. It will give the Domers a good excuse why they fall well short of expectations this year has set, next year.

If he does leave, be ready to hear Strong as the name they are going after. The media will be in heaven. They will get constant talk show fodder for 3 months.

I hope he leaves...its exactly what the ND program would deserve, them being the welfare program of NCAA football and all.

That program is so overhyped by the media...It gets nausious at times...I always root agianst them...They seem to get so much for so little because they were good 30 years ago...Brian Kelley would be wise to get out while his name is hot..Once they go 8-4 next season...Domers will want him fired...

It's human nature to compare your salary to others in your line of work, not regular working stiffs. I make about 50k/yr and I would like a raise. I have become accustomed to and expect a certain mode of living and I don't care that McDonalds workers make minimum wage.

If he got offered a job with the Eagles, he would be stupid to stay at ND IMO. The NFL is an upgrade from NCAA. It's not like he's been there before and failed like Spurrier and Saban.

Yep, kinda like Nick Saban slipping away in the middle of the night.

Why? Nobody cares about ND anymore.. they got exposed for being overrated as always.. who wants to talk about Notre Shame other than getting their ass handed to them?? Plus, Strong won't go there (big SEC job>>>>ND, he turned that down) and I would hope they would find a coach way before 3 months.. if not they may be lucky to have a winning season next year

I like the guy...thought he did a good job at Cincy...had better QBs than he does now. I think he knew he was outmatched by Bama and accepted it.

ND is at a whole other level than a job like Arkansas. Only SEC jobs that compare are probably LSU, Bama and Florida, which Strong wasn't offered. I am not saying Strong will take it, but that will be the name that everyone mentions.

Just because ND isn't good doesn't mean people dont care about them.

I thought he was probably just using the eagles for a raise (like every other coach in america) but if he's talking with the bears too, there might be something to this. Saying leaving is not an option is a fine response. It is not an option when you are asked because you do not have an offer at that time only after you get the offer, which you have likely indicated your will accept does the option arise and that's way after your interview and before your announcement that you're leaving. Also, Saban didn't really fail in my recollection. He had the dolphins, which have sucked since at least the 80's, headed in the right direction and they were sad to see him leave.

Saban would still be in the NFL if Drew Brees didn't fail his physical with the Dolphins
