Tanner and the next master plan!

whether you liked him or not, Hyman was smart to develop a master plan to give the University a sense of direction. With most of those projects now completed i think Tanner would be wise to create a next phase strategy.With the new football practice field and indoor practice facility on the horizon, Here are some of my wish list!

1. a new Williams Brice Stadium exterior and apron

2. a new outdoor track facility and stadium - ours right now is woefully inadequate!

3. An indoor track facility

4. Gamecock park, part two, three, four. ect. - I believe the university should attempt to buy as much property around Williams Brice as possible and convert the space into parking areas just like they did to the old farmers market property. i would love to see them start by buying all the land between Idlewilde, Market, Key and Bluff. with side walks, lamp posts, brick walls and iron gates. if we want people to perceive our stadium as a top notch facility, the image of an industrial wasteland must be addressed

5. More luxury suites at Carolina stadium down the first base line - i know our baseball stadium rocks but we should already be planning on how to make it better for the future

6. purchase all the property between Williams, Wheat, Catawba, and Huger so we can lose the scenic view of metal warehouses down the first base line!

i know the lady on the corner of williams and the cross road behind the first base side of the stadium was offered a good bit of money but decided to turn it down....i park there during the season is how i know this

I don't want to lose the warehouse that turns into a bar with the cherry pickers out front! I've grabbed a couple beers there. And the cherry pickers, I think, are funny to see on televised baseball games. Yup, that's South Carolina.

That warehouse / cherrypicker deal takes the place of the right field railroad tracks at the Sarge.

Still remember the regional (or maybe super) where the engineer parked his 'ride' on the track and watched the game.

I think these three items are all ready included in the Hyman master plan.

IIRC, the Hyman Plan, (as I call it) will take us through the next decade before we need to create another master plan.

Also, in terms of purchasing property. That falls to the USC Development Foundation. Which is a separate and independent arm of the University. They purchase all real estate, and handle all endowed and willed gifts.

The Athletic Department and/or BOT's can covet all of the property the want, but if the Development Foundation doesn't think a purchase is worth the expense then it is a non-starter.

The indoor track facility needs a massive upgrade horrible track way to square shaped, Clemson has the facility we need for indoor track. Outdoor track needs a huge upgrade.

Saw Ray speak at a Rotary Club meeting a while back and he said he planned on field at least 1 new sports team to participate in on the NCAA level in the next 4 years. It will likely be a women's sport and will likely be lacrosse.

A full, 120 yard indoor practice facility should be at the TOP of our priority list right now.

After that, the exterior of Williams-Brice, specifically anything that can be done to ease the walk-path from the Farmer's Market and the Fairgrounds.

It would also be wise to dig out from under the massive debt left by the Hyman master plan. The economy is not on sound footing and who knows how much longer the ESPN gravy train is going to last. I say a good plan for the athletic department would be to secure plenty of gold and hold onto it for hard times. Just think how we could demolish Clemp at that point.

I would agree with you except this is the SEC and ground zero of the college football arms race...we should keep moving forward just to keep pace at the very least...I know you are not saying to stop anything and your point is that we shouldn't go over board (looking at you UNLV)...I just wanted to make the point about how the SEC is ultra-competitive on and off the field...though technically we can say this is still plenty much 'on the field'....also, sorry about trying to create the phrase "plenty much" when "pretty much" is still serviceable...I do not know why I did that at all

There is a lot left to do to the exterior of Williams Brice. Last time I drove through they were still doing work in the athletic park. I believe a new indoor facility for the football team was in the plan, as there has been recent discussion about it. Not really sure what else.

How does Carolina look with regards to Title IX? I know most universities are way out of balance on the ratios and can only add women's sports.
