I expect Shaq Roland to get a look. He has speed and vision, and returned in HS.

I thought Shaq was a big time returner at Lexington. Is he an option for one of the returning jobs? I think I might like Bruce taking punts and a Shaq/Byrd combo on kickoffs.

Byrd is fast but not elusive. If Shaq can catch it he would be a good option. Carson may also be a good choice. He is supposed to be a playmaker. Cooper looked great in the Shrine bowl. Don't know much about Martin. Don't like use our best corner to do it if there are other options.

Not Byrd. He's fast, but he just runs in a straight line, doesn't cut or juke. He doesn't seem to have great vision like a good kick returner should.

I don't think the coaches would trust Byrd enough with his hands to let him return punts.

This. I like Byrd but he is way too inconsistent to be a punt returner. He had 4-5 dropped passes this year and only 14 catches.

it isn't his hands it is his style of running. His is better suited for KO returns. Punt returner always have to make a man miss so they need some moves like Ace.

Ace certainly isn't slow but he doesn't have elite top-end speed. He makes up for it with elite burst and short-area quickness. Byrd seems to be on the opposite end of the spectrum; elite top end speed but not the same level of burst and quickness that is better suited for a punt returner. |

we need to realize that sc may never ever have a guy at pr like ace sanders. he was at an elite level. one of the best pr i have seen ever in college football.
trying to figure out which guy gives us the best chance back there really is a wasted conversation. whomever we see line up at pr next year is the guy the coaches feel is the best at the position. |

I think Shaq is the next best pick at PR. Is quick and has the ability to make moves in the open field which is what a PR is all about.

Ace was such a great asset to have back there that I would be suprised if we have anyone else on the roster that can come close...those returns were absolutely electric...he'd put the ball on the ground sometimes but even then he would pick it back up, wait for a crease, and explode through it...all I am hoping for next year is at least five yards gained on the punts

As others have stated, Ahmad Christian would be a very good fit at PR.

Here's Ahmad's HS highlights. Love the way he sets up his blocks.

This kid has some great down-field vision.

We have several solid options at least.
I would not be surprised to see ronnie martin take the job eventually because i do not think they want to overload bruce. Shaq and ahmad will get thier chance im sure.
