Interesting Clowney-Lewan article

Wish him the best. Didn't follow his career or anything, but agree that matched up against Lewan and the Tennessee tackle were Clowney's biggest obstacles.

Also, just like to say to Gobluejeff - you've been an outstanding Wolverine fan to interact with. We of course respect the Michigan football program, and were honored to compete, and as you can see from our celebration, feel very privileged to have come out on top. Michigan played big boy football with heart, and is in no small way the driving force of the B1G.

Lewan is returning to Michigan for his senior year....
So probably not working on his draft status.

the lewan slanted articles dont sit well with me. yes, clowney only had 4 tackles, and yes lewan wasnt on him for the big hit. but, clowney was around him a few times like lewan was standing still. those plays just happened to be run to the opposite side so clowney didnt get credit.

i am not saying lewan isnt good, i am just pointing out that if you rewatch the game you will see clowney abusing him a few times one on one.

What's amazing to me is that even in Clowney's "Toughest" matchups of the season, he found a way to almost completely alter the outcome of the game (definitely the momentum) by forcing turnovers late in those games.

They completely schemed around him that game. Clowney was getting chipped, pushed to the sidelines with the run going the opposite direction, double teamed, etc. He was frustrated early, I believe they even took him out for a few plays early on. Lewan and the michigan coaching stuff did a good job handling clowney for the most part. But that one single play they didnt account for him? Was a highlight of that game. You can't get by accounting for him only some of the time. Teams know this and still can't stop him.

He is returning because his draft projection was after the second round. Lying about the alleged comment by Clowney was an attempt to hype himself into the first round money.

This kind of mutual respect is good for the game. Not just from a sportsmanship angle, but from the point of view of civility and its close cousin: professionalism.

A player can get amped up about a game coming up, angered by losing, feel like a champion for that game-changing play or sorely disappointed for dropping the ball (literally or otherwise) and keep that winning instinct—even a killer instinct—without wanting to trash talk or down a rival player.

Yeah, maybe trash talk amps up the competition, but it only adds an element of instability, because when the trash talked gets caught off-guard, he's the one who is going to be knocked off of his game and out of his element quicker and harder than the player who doesn't take things personally when he doesn't have to yet still lets his blood run hot over the prospect of winning.

This is Lattimore to a T. As we see here, this is Clowney just the same, and Lewan is in the same boat.

I don't know if civility is a criteria that is looked into when evaluating the draft stock of a potential draft pick. If not, it should be. It's what makes any person a true professional in whatever his profession is. Also, with egos as they are in the NFL, civility shows personal stability, which frankly comes at a high premium in the NFL.

So draft stock up or not, Clowney's stock just got higher for me when I didn't think it could get any higher.

He was getting away with a lot of holding and facemasks and pulling Clowney's hair, but that penalty was Auguste's facemask down the field on a screen. They didn't block Clowney at all and he almost the sack/batted ball.
