I'm still banking on Kwinton Smith, KJ Brent and hopefully the light has come on for Shameir Jeffery.

Byrd could be the guy...he just has to get more consistent.
Maybe an offseason of hard work will do the trick. Lord knows he has the athletic ability to be a difference maker.

KJ Brent at the Z receiver (slot) is going to be very interesting. He has that big body that Bubba likes and my guess is that this is an attempt to improve the running game. We've had some success in the past by putting bigger receivers there. Also Brent has the hands to be a clutch 3rd down guy. He doesn't have the moves Ace does but he can still cause some problems. But I think the main reason he is getting put there is to improve blocking.

We have some awesome TE's that I hope SOS will incorporate more in the passing game. These guys are game changers and should be very valuable inside the red zone. Let em play.

All this talk about who will be the next guy to step up is nice, but before any of that can happen, we must have a QB that can make all the throws.

IMO its because USC gets better matchups with them lined up at the LOS. If you split them out you match them up with a Safety who runs just as fast. Also remember our play designs with our tight ends where they are only used on crossing patterns, check downs, and occasional seam routes when the defense is in a cover 2 zone. You don't see many complexed routes with them like you do our receivers. Its just the way Spurrier's passing system is.
Our Tight Ends get big yardage when they get "lost in the weeds" for a lack of a better phrase. When we use them on crossing patterns they get free'd by vacating one side of the field and usually a "pick" by the receivers. When its cover 2 and we go to the seam they usually get a pretty clean released off the LOS and are able to get into the soft spot.

Jerrel Adams and Shaq Roland need more work this year.

I really like Ace and what he did for the university, but it's not going to be that hard to replace a 5-8 guy at WR. It will be harder to replace his intangibles at kick returner, but USC will be fine and guys will step up. He was probably the biggest reason USC won the Outback Bowl, but again somebody else will be there for the QBs.

It sounds like he will be a likely candidate. We need him, Shaq and Jerrell Adams to step up to join Bruce, Damiere and Nick.

Another guy to think about..
TE Drew Owens Had a catch for a TD in the spring game before he got hurt. He and Adams could give us two giant options at TE while Anderson moves to more of an Aaron Hernandez-type role.

I really like nick jones and think he did great when his number was called but I'm not sure I want him to be a starter. I feel like guys like shaq Roland, jody fuller, and Kwinton smith have more of an upside than he does.

Reading through this thread makes me realize how many options we have at WR. I'll miss Ace, as I'm sure everyone else will as well, but I think we'll be more than fine at WR.

I am more concerned about replacing him at punt returner than WR. We will have no problem finding another go-to receiver. His talents at punt returner are tough to replace.
