Out of curiosity, why are you so willing to give him the benefit of the doubt? The burden of proof is definitely on him at this point.

Also, I agree with whoever mentioned that this could have started as a cover story for Te'o's sexuality. If that's the case, it is deeply, deeply sad that he had to go to such lengths and felt so much pressure to hide. Unfortunately not surprising, though.

Agreed. Sad that the culture of sports and football wouldn't just let him be himself (if that's the case). But he also bears tremendous personal responsibility as well.

And he should give back all the awards. He didn't deserve them for on the field play and now he certainly doesn't deserve them for off the field conduct. A big step in image rehab would be giving them back. Can you imagine if he'd won the Heisman, been trucked in the NC game, and then this? Good god.

Did he reference spending time w/ her in the interview? Seeing her personally? because the ND statement just released would contradict all of that, claiming he was "the victim". So unless there was an actual girl actually pretending to be this other person that was physically interacting w/ Teo, that doesn't hold water.
