People who say that kids these days have virtual friends and online relationships as a reason that it could be true that this was a hoax aren't thinking about it logically. This wasn't just a young person. This was one of the most popular college athletes in the US, the captain of the football team, and the star of Notre Dame! How could you honestly believe that this man was in a 3 year relationship with a girl that he had never seen in person?! He skypes his parents.. why not his "girlfriend." I'm still trying to get my head around this, but he was most certainly in on it and used it to promote himself. Think about it, if it was a hoax, how could the perpetrators make the death of his "gf" 6 hours after the death of his grandmother, when no one knew about it until 24 hours (at minimum) later.

Yes, and the girlfriend was created to cover it up. I think this is what eventually comes out...along with Manti. And then the media will make a huge deal about how society treats gays and why a "great guy" like Te'o was ashamed to come out. This is the only thing that's going to save the guy's NFL career. Because if he keeps with the story about being a victim and not knowing the girl was fake, he looks like a kook and mentally unbalanced and teams will avoid him.

The Notre Dame AD that spoke last night and teared up defending Manti, you know the best human being I've ever met deal, reminded me so much of the Lance Armstrong believers who spoke so passionately over the years about all he had done and how he never could have cheated.

Thanks man. I think that Notre Dame could have been in on it as well. But surely someone knew that this would come up at some point. That's one of the realities of the internet - you can't hide anything. Everything is out there, everything you say is documented, and anyone can find it. I'm thankful for people like the guys at deadspin who saw a fishy story and chose to do some digging. Otherwise, all of America would still be believing in a lie.

After reading all the evidence, I can only come up with two logical conclusions:

1. After being robbed of rightfully deserved awards and recognition this season by Manti, Clowney hit Vincent Smith so hard that it not only killed Manti's girlfriend, it erased any record of her being a part of the space time continuum.

Okay, I'm still pretty confused as to wtf is going on but I think I have the possibilities narrowed down.

a. He got catfished and he is just finding out now his "girlfriend" was never real (extremely unlikely but still hilarious)

b. He got catfished and found out, and decided to cover it up by giving her cancer and killing her off in order save himself the embarrassment. (I'm leaning toward this)

c. He made it all up in order to have a sob story that would help him gain popularity.

d. He made up a fake girlfriend because he didn't want people to find out he is gay.

e. He suffers from delusions of grandeur.

f. He made it up because he was bored and felt like messing with the media and fans for his own amusement.

g. Something else.

h. More than one of these reasons.

Extremely weird and crazy situation no matter what the answer.
