For the record if you are looking at any of the LG tv's they use the same stuff as most of the Insignia's and Vizio's. I have one Vizio and one LG that are 4+ years old and both still work great. Just pisses me off I paid almost 1,000 for my 42" and now I can get an awesome unit for that much. I'll be buying something a little bigger for the living room at some point this year I think.

From what I understand, outside of the really high end units there are only a few companies that actually manufacture the LCD screens. I know that was a the case 3-4 years ago and I assume not much has changed. With that in mind there are some store brands out there that are in essence high end tv's in a house branded package, but some house/smaller brands are crap so do your research.

We just got the 60' Vizio Ultra Thin Smart TV and it is KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The clearity of this thing is insane. It literally makes watching tv shows "weird" because you can see so much depth. It's the closest to a 3D tv you will get without a 3D tv. We got it a few weeks ago, so I haven't been able to watch a football game yet, but watching Basketball games is AWESOME!!!!!

50" LG Plasma. Looks great in my living room.

For the bedroom, we have had a Vizio 32" LCD for a little over 3 years now. It is still going strong. It even suffered some water damage, and it came through just fine.

Vizio is a great economical brand.

I have a 42" plasma and I prefer it over LCD. But I am fond of LED.

Now, granted, I'm not familiar with the high end stuff, like what cack is screaming about over there.

If you don't already have high definition (HD) that makes a huge difference in the picture with LCD or LED.

Plasmas will burn an image in your screen if you pause TV or leave a game paused for a while or if you leave it on the guide it will burn the grid into the screen. Led and LCD do not have this problem I prefer led. Don't go grammer crazy on me I'm on my phone and don't feel like correcting all that stuff

Burn-in always goes away pretty quickly. You also can barely notice it. It is almost impossible for an image to burn in permanently.

LCD TVs can have burn-in also.

That's what I have. The 50 inch LG. They're pretty damn cheap too and the picture is rediculous. Panny's are supposed to have better blacks but you pay for it. You don't have to worry about burn in on modern plasmas unless you like really abused it and didn't turn on the stuff to keep it from burning in. The viewing angles on plasma kills LCD, LED all that shiz. The only real drawbacks are the glare and the weight. If you're doing it in a bright room and want to be able to watch at any time you wouldn't want a plasma.

I have my plasma turned into the corner away from windows, so you can avoid glare if you have a shady corner.

Really, really happy with the Vizio I got for the bedroom. It is much better than the larger Sony in the living room.

Go to your nearest hhgregg store and get you a LG LED. They have 30 day price guarantee, so if the price drops Super Bowl weekend you get a refund. Worked there in Greenville up till a year ago. Had a customer 2 or 3 years ago come back twice because of reduced price.. Saved about 3 or 4 hundred dollars,, course he was happy, but it ate up my commision,,, oh well. Cool guy though, he knew it tore my commission up so he brought me a dinner certificate for two at a really fine restaurant.
I watched LG come from a low tier tv to what I think is the best on the market, also there was a lot more profit in them so we could make better deals. If you talk with your salesperson right trust me they will make a deal !!!

I have a Sony Bravia 55" LED that I will put up vs any Samsung for picture quality. Its the only TV with a 960HZ refresh rate and infinite contrast ratio. This tv puts out brilliant whites and deep blacks that are noticeably higher in quality than other LED TVs.

However I do like Samsung. Got one in the bedroom and another upstairs in the guest room. Both have excellent picture (LCD) and never gave me any problems.

S-LCD was established on April 26th 2004 by an equal joint investment by Samsung and Sony dedicated to the manufacturing of amorphous TFT LCD panels for LCD TVs targeting mass production to begin in the first half of 2005.

Samsung owns 50% (+1 share) and Sony owns 50% (-1 share)

It's not uncommon for manufacturers to share vendors. Do you think every component on a Samsung is manufactured by Samsung? Guess again.
