Default Stan "The Man" Musial Passes Away At 92

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/cardina...3Rpb25z;_ylv=3

Quote:
Stan Musial, one of baseball's greatest hitters and a Hall of Famer with the St. Louis Cardinals for more than two decades, died Saturday. He was 92. Stan the Man won seven National League batting titles, was a three-time MVP and helped the Cardinals capture three World Series championships in the 1940s.

This is a sad day when one of the "Greatest Players Of All Times" passes away. Stan "The Man" Musical was one of the greatest hitters in the game and sometimes does not get enough credit for being a complete baseball player.

I grew up being a Yankee Fan and "The Mighty Mick" was my hero, but I always liked "Stan The Man" and would always search the sports page for his teams game to see how he did. MLB could use more players like Stan Musical today.

Watched the documentary "Baseball" that was made in 1994. They interviewed a pitcher that faced Musial consistently.

They asked him: "How did you pitch to him?"

He responded: "It's simple. I threw him my best pitch, then ran to go back up 3rd base."

One of the best and a legend from the days I started watching baseball. "The Man" was one of the players that you'd spend your last dime trying to get his card. From all accounts Musial was as outstanding a person as he was a baseball player. Coupled with Earl Weaver's passing this morning, this has been a really sad day for baseball. RIP

Obviously as a 28 year old I never got to see him play. But as a Cardinal fan for about as long as I can I am legitimately saddened by his passing. One of the greatest players and ambassadors the great game of baseball has ever seen.

RIP to one of the greatest hitters ever. As a former South Carolinian living currently in STL, to say he was an icon here would be a vast understatement. I was fortunate enough to attend 2011 opening day at Busch Stadium where I shook his hand and spoke to him briefly. To say he was nice is like saying Clowney is just another pass rusher.

All anyone really needs to know about the measure of "The Man" is to hear the high regard in which his competitors revere him.

Stan the man is without dout the most underrated baseball superstar. His stats are off the charts. He is in the conversation with the best 6-7 players of all time. And, Stan was a perfect gentleman, a great teammate and during his era, understood the racial tensions in the game and stood for what was right.

I too grew up a Yankee fan (long islander living in Texas now) and to me Lou Gehrig is the Yankee equivalent as far as being a gentleman and representing the game and his team. Jeter for me now in the modern era.

In the Baseball movie it also said he had 3630 career hits, 1815 at home and 1815 on the road. Not sure if that is true, but if it is, that is really amazing.
