After long assuming (wrongly) that all we had to be was at 82 scholarships, it appears we are capped at 22 guys that we can enroll for the 2013 and 2014 classes.

Senat to see Spurrier Thursday, commitment possible

DL Deadrin Senat of Immokalee, FL is on commitment alert regarding USC. 'South Carolina is number one," said Senat who visited USC last weekend. "I like them real good. Everything stood out to me. It was just different, thinks I hadn't seen before." USC head coach Steve Spurrier and assistant GA Mangus are to visit Senat Thursday and he acknowledged that a commitment is on his mind. 'It's possible," he said. "I like South Carolina a lot but I'm still interested in all my offers. Everybody is coming at me hard." Senat is scheduled to visit NC State this weekend. He has also been to South Florida and the Bulls are second on his list to USC.

Vonn Bell is a guy who impressed on film during his senior season and backed it up while at Under Armour earlier this month. He's a tremendous playmaker at the safety position and more than held his own against the top talent in the country. There's a reason the best college programs in the land are after him, and he's going to be a great late addition for someone down the stretch.

Coaching staff still remains one head coach and 9 assistants, but I believe the rule use to limit only 7 coaches off-campus at any one time. Now all 10 can be out and about

Student-athletes will be able to receive up to $300 per year "beyond normal expenses" to assist with "non-scholastic" events, help with expenses for travel to all-star games, goodwill tours, award ceremonies, etc.

I guess this will be extra to the $450-a-month stipend that they already receive from the university? Could the "non-scholastic" events also be to take their girlfriends out on a date, go to the movies, etc.? This could be called the "Spurrier Rule" as it sounds like what Coach Spurrier was talking about a year or so ago. Or perhaps it could be the "Manti T'eo Rule", and the NCAA are concerned about student-athletes resorting to online dating mythical people they have never met as opposed to actually taking a real-live person out on the town on a real date

Prospects will be able to communicate with "staffers" that are NOT full-time members of the coaching staff regarding their recruitment. These representatives will not be able to visit, but can communicate.

So I guess programs could have other staffers and administration texting and communicating with prospects, and they could be recruiting those prospects as well? So not only 24-hour recruitment from the coaching staff, but also from other reps that are not even coaches? Could this allow for the development of a "Director of Recruiting Department" where the Recruiting Director/Coordinator isn't even one of the 10 full-time coaching staff, but rather some administrative position who has a staff of his/her own? The coaches make the personal visits/evals/contact, then they pass off the day-to-day (now minute-to-minute) contact off to a "recruiting team" that will specialize in all the rules minutiae.

Seriously Yannick needs to think this thing out. He has a chance to legitimately contend for a SEC and National Championship. Maryland could not win in the ACC. They are moving to a Big 10 Conference where they will be predicted to finish last or close to it. Maryland is several years away from competing for a Big 10 Championship. There current Coach is on the hot seat. This decision should be extremely easy to make especially when he has a chance to walk in and compete for a starting spot immediately.

all good points. but i will tell you that i greatly appreciate the players who contributed here in 2005-08..those players set us up and allowed us to be in the position we are in now. If Yannick likes Md and wants to a part of the first MD team to be in in the B1G then i will not fault him.

Or he could stay close to home and play in front of his family and friends, and maybe play for the school he grew up cheering for. I'm just trying to be realistic.
